When We Were Mates (Demetra and Emris) novel Chapter 253

Chapter 253

Chapter 253

Laura Hale.

I growl in pain, hissing at the same time through gritted teeth as blood rolls down over my lip. Emris. Em slammed me straight into the air like some rag doll he’s tired of holding, and I spun uselessly, rolled over, unable to plant my feet back on the ground.

When I finally hit the floor, blood was already pouring from my side because he didn’t just throw me, no, claws actually caught skin into my skin on the way, carved me open at the side.

H-How?

How did he even do that? I’m a Trybrid myself, not some weak little omega.

His….his ability has turned into something else.

The darkening must have done something more than just switching off his emotions

His strength is nothing I’ve ever seen before. Vicious, a slam-crack blow that hit me square in the pelvis, in my skull, in my knuckles, in my heart, all at once, like he split me open from the inside out. My head snaps back and I finally look up at him properly. That hit came from a place of pure irritation.

I was choosing to run instead of answering his damn questions, and he clearly considered that an insult wor this much pain. And the worst part is Emris hasn’t even shifted.

There’s this mean look on his face that puts us in completely different tiers, even though we’re supposedly both Trybrids, supposedly cut from the same impossible cloth.

I’m strong.

I KNOW I’M STRONG.

I was never supposed to get slammed through the air like some novice pup until I did.

And in that moment, I realized we’re not the same. His Vampyr and my Vampyr are not the same animal. He gone ballistic, some scrap of that darkened energy bleeding straight into his fists, and whatever fight he’s operating on right now is a level I have no business standing in front of.

Blood trickles from my nose to my chin and now to the floor. I’m bleeding in my nose too? I wipe it with the back of my hand, and the side of my waist is so bashed that regeneration is slow, sluggish, like even my own body is second-guessing whether I deserve to heal.

“Handcuff her.” Emris says, and I can’t even scream because it feels like Emris slam-pushed my lungs and vocals destroyed too. I just stare, sitting with the betrayal of the fact that he just used me. He suspected me all this while but didn’t do anything about it.

He made me Delta specifically so I’d lead him straight to Ariadne.

Ariadne didn’t even last thirty seconds once Monroe dragged her in.. she was already confessing and shaking before anyone laid a finger on her.

Chapter 253

After I found out what she and Lake actually did, veering off from what we’d originally agreed on, I was thi close… this close to killing that bitch myself. I had my hand around her throat, ready to open it until she swore she’d help me find Emris and how to save him…including the contact I needed to get into the Sahara Den in the first place.

It was Radius’s own contact she handed me, and that’s the only reason my claw never made it into her neck the way my rage was begging it to. I dragged her to my where Trent was to pull the rest out of her but Demetra interrupted us right in the middle of that

But the second Demetra left with Monroe, Ariadne and I picked up exactly where we’d left off.

She bought her life by telling me where the Sahara Den was, so I let her live.

When Radius died and she realized she couldn’t crawl back to the Barbarian pack because those wolves wou tear apart every son and daughter Radius left behind just to steal the Alpha seat.

Ariadne was miles and miles away from their territory where even being Radius’s kid was enough to get you killed on sight so she ran back to me. Begging. And I’ve been hiding her ever since. From Emris, who’s been hunting her like prey. From the Barbarian wolves, who’d see her face and blame her for every single Barbarian death Emris left in his wake. I kept her close because at the end of the day, I knew I still needed a wolf who could compel.

I decided to sacrifice her because Emris was at the verge of letting me go.

I was stupid. So unbelievably, pathetically stupid, thinking I could play this like some elaborate ploy and come out ahead. I was so desperate to stay in his orbit, to keep my place at his side, that I went blind giving him my loyalty and now look at me. On my fucking knees, handcuffed, while the Covenant pack’s vengeance hungry wolves.

Zetas, Gammas, including the exclusive Zetas who never bother showing their faces for anything less than blood. I watch them circle the floor one by one, growling low, baring claws, practically salivating at the chance to finally get their revenge on me.

I saw it coming and I tried to run. I expected a Delta to be the one that would try to stop me….not Emris himself.

Later on, Emris twists his neck all the way back with a different attention on his face and I see the row of omegas and Deltas part because Demetra is here.

While I’m still on my knees in cuffs on my knees. I watch, disgusted, as he crosses to her, cups her face in his hand, and kisses her like I’m not even bleeding on the floor six feet away.

“What are you doing down here?” he says softly. “You shouldn’t see this. Go upstairs.”

Demetra looks left and finds me where I am on my knees with Ariadne weeping.

I am not weeping like Ariadne.

I am afraid for my life, yes, but I’ll never weep in front of Demetra! My nose is bleeding. Fam defeated. I can taste the copper in my lips from a single hit courtesy of Emris, and the tears I swore weren’t coming start welling up anyway. The image of Emris and Demetra together, so close, so easy with each other, burns something raw across my scalp until it feels red and hot, and my knuckles clench so right my fangs bare on

Radius and Lake. At the time, Laura Hale made it look like she W

Ariadne, Radius’s own daughter, who’s also the shapeshifter we’ve been hunting, has confessed. Laura’s real goal was to compel the Alpha.”

Silver’s voice rises.

“She had feelings for him and wanted him compelled into feeling the same, whatever the cost. The compulsion in mind was also supposed to get him to strike down every former person the Alpha loves and claim her only. Which means she wanted little Milo dead. Our little future Alpha, dead. The Luna dead. Me dead. You dead. Every last one of you, dead.” Silver points slowly around the room, and I watch hatred build in every set of Delta eyes with each word out of his mouth.

“Of course the plan fell apart, because Lake wanted the Alpha seat for himself, and the two of them conspired against each other just as much as they conspired against us which is exactly what sent the Alpha into the frenzy of the darkening in the first place. If it hadn’t been for our Luna, Demetra… the Barbarians would’ve torn this pack house, this territory and apart!

Silver slams his fist against his chest. “They know we are the greatest pack and only a plurality of mad wolves like them could have stood a chance. Could! But our Luna fought back!”

Every wolf in the room starts beating their chest at once all for Demetra’s bravery. The sound of it. fists against sternums, the room chanting LUNA, LUNA, LUNA over and over, makes something inside me snap.

Bravery!? This bitch isn’t powerful. She played mind games with Lake, manipulated him like a puppet, never once pulled a real fight out of herself. She’s just a bloody white omega. same as her useless excuse of a mother.

What are the odds, honestly? That the bitch sitting in the place that should belong to my mother gave birth to the bitch currently sitting in the place that should belong to me. What are the actual odds: The madness. fury and venom of it all sits thick in my throat until I can’t hold it down anymore, and it comes out… not as the scream I want, but as tears streaming hot down my face.

he whole world thought the great Alpha of the Covenants was dead. Every pack out there was whispering about my brother, rotting in the valley of the dead! They said, “yeah, that bastard was powerful, but the one and only Trybrid is gone.” But no one, no one gets to do that to my brother!”

Silver says it, staring straight at Emris, and his voice actually cracks on the last word.

“Everyone here knows exactly why Emris is Alpha. Everyone here knows he was captured, kidnapped by the Barbarian pack with by Lake’s mother orders, held there for two years in an attempt to break him. But our Alpha cannot be broken!”

“ALPHA!” Monroe yells.

And the yelling starts again….every wolf in the room hammering their chest in a display of loyalty I have never once seen matched in my life.

“Get them ready for the pack strike.” Emris says it, and it comes out as a growl this time!

Ariadne bursts into fresh sobbing beside me all over again.

“PLEASE! PLEASE, PLEASE, ALPHA!”

They haul me to my feet, and Emris doesn’t even spare me a glance as I’m dragged past him. Instead, he’s murmuring something to Demetra while his hand rests soft against her belly, something that sounds almost like “have you eaten?”….tender, gentle, domestic –

While he sentences me to the pack strike in the same breath.

prison guards put together a custom12

for years, frustrated, deadliest and the ones they have to chain even inside their own cells because they’re too far gone to trust loose.

I made them to give him a warm welcome. A pack strike every single day for three straight weeks, until the matron finally reported back that Lake stopped talking. Moving. Stopped eating. And stopped bothering to glare at anyone.

I always knew Tatanos was the kind of place where even the most powerful wolves eventually lose their spirit. Lake got pack strikes so deep in his skin, they had to sew him close across most of his body and left scars that will sit on his so-called Lycan image.

Whenever Lake looks in the mirror, those scars will remind him that he threatened my mate and children.

At the end of the pack strike, both Laura and Ariadne are covered in tattered clothes and gashing images of the stamps on their bodies that will remind them forever that it was here in the Black Covenant Pack it happened. I watch until they are deposited in the car, and the exclusive Zetas get in their own truck to make sure they are transported to the highest-grade prison in existence. It’s not just one truck. I have thirty-three trucks lined up behind that one, and now, finally, the pack erupts into celebration of a victory long overdue.

I can’t celebrate with them yet, though, because soon enough I’m launching my first strike on the Sahara Den itself. That’s not something I can pull off alone, so I’ve already reached out to contacts across the globe to help me handle it properly. According to the private server, there are two active locations in this state, and apparently they’re hosting another game in the Den this week.

I promised Demetra this would all be over in one week, and I intend to keep that promise exactly. Plenty of Alphas are traveling in from all over the world to be a part of that Den game, which means I’m not relying on the Aegis unit for this one. I’m going in with the lion pride and my own gammas.

When I walk back into the pack house, Mom stops talking to Reagan and faces me. Reagan stares at me like a stranger in his own skin, refusing to meet my eyes.

For some reason, mom is begging me not to sentence Reign to a pack strike even though I haven’t said a single word about planning one. But it’s justifiable, you know. I mean, Elena is serving time in prison, and he averted his own punishment. They know me. It’s not in my nature to let criminals go unpunished.

“I…I came to help.” Regan scratches his nose, staring at the floor. He looks like a bloody nomad….going

now, nothing left of the Louis, the Guci, and his overpriced watches. I froze every one despite him running with what little cash he had left, Regan couldn’t survive on it.

Also the overzealous one. Quick to anger but consistently lacking the common sense to match it. Demetra walks in behind me. Regan glances at her once, and immediately drops his eyes back to the floor like the sight of her burns.

“Demetra, let’s leave them to talk.” Mom says and I let a small smile pull at my mouth.

“If you leave me alone in here with your son, you’ll have only two sons left.” I say.

Demetra’s the only reason I’ve behaved myself at all today. Mom gets what I mean by that, and she instantly drops it.

“I know there’s nothing I could say.”

“You could start by telling me what your plan was. And look me in the fucking eyes when I talk to you!”

I growl that, and everyone jumps.

I’ve waited for this. I’ve waited for the moment. Where my own brother is gonna explain to me why the hell he didn’t just tell me he and Elena were fated mates so they could fuck each other in peace.
