Demetra.

I shut my eyes in embarrassment.

“Now come on, let’s go to the club now that we have a solution. Teddy is already on her way, Sabrina is meeting us halfway, and Eden is convincing Slade to come with us.” Tiffany walks in the closet,

“Slade? The Alpha who works all night?” I tease with a chuckle.

“He looked really horrible when he walked in. I swear… him being Alpha is making him miserable. I hear Tiffany from inside my closet, raiding it. “Aunt Scotty told me to invite Sabri too so she and Slade can both have some flirty moments in the club to build tension if you know what I mean…”

“Hmmm…” I say, imagining it for them.

It will definitely get them talking.

“So what about me? Why do I have to go?” I get up from the sitting area.

“Because I said so.” Tiffany comes out with the shortest, skin-tigh black dress I’ve ever seen in my life. I swear I don’t remember adding that to my collection of single mother outfits. And because you’re young as the day and if anything, the Alphas from Alpha Fest will look past any damn rumour they her ’cause you’re so hot and you should be using your hotness.”

“Amira-”

“Dad just finished bath time with Amira. They’re watching a cartoon as we speak. Don’t even use that girl as an excuse!”

“I can’t wear that. Who even-”

“I bought it for you… you just don’t know.” Tiffany chuckles, laying it on my bed and dusting her hands off like she just accomplished something great.

“I’ll be back in ten minutes…you better be in five, unless… I have our secret now and I can tell the whole family!” She threatens me.

“Tiffany.” I groan.

“Now, miss Pride.” She teases, and then she’s right at the door about to leave when she faces me. “I’m not looking down on you, okay? I mean, it’s Emris. It would have been hard for you not to get in bed with a sexy Alpha like that. I mean yeah, he’s a douchebag but he is a sexy one,”

She chuckles, walking out of my room while I squint, looking at he damn dress that wouldn’t even reach my ass.

Maybe when I hadn’t had Amira it would have worked. But after childbirth…this dress is a joke.

I pick it up anyway.

I step out of the car last and wind gushes through my hair. And when I say this dress is short, I mean short-I can feel the breeze passing between my thighs like there’s nothing there. Because basically, there isn’t.

I looked in the mirror before leaving and honestly? I didn’t know what to do with my hips. I lost weight after birth…even though it wasn’t intentional, just postpartum doing its thin but my entire body changed. I never had boobs this perky or hips this curvy, Let’s not even talk about my ass. My entire wardrobe hanged and I’ve accepted that this is now my body. Not the

I guess I always had this body underneath. It just took pregnancy to really round it out into a very noticeable figure.

Back at the Black Covenant pack, Derisha made sure I knew at every point that I wasn’t conventionally attractive like the other females there. They were usually thinner, smaller and because I was different, that made her… could it be insecure? But then why would a grown woman like her be jealous of a literal teenager at that point?

Right after Amira, men started noticing me in ways I don’t recall them noticing me before. All kinds of clothes looked so much more attractive on me. That’s when I started accepting and liking my new curves.

I mean, for all that is good, Emris never compared me to anybody else. When we found out we were mates, he… he was attracted to my body. And just recently as we were messing around in ways we shouldn’t be, I saw the way he couldn’t believe his eyes.

I wanted to ask him what he thought. But I could read it in his eyes already, and of course I’m not so stupid to ask such a vulnerable question that would make him think I need his words of affirmation. Five years ago, I needed.

For him to say it, not just moan it or growl “mine” against my skin.

“Okay, we’re set. Come on, guys.” Tiffany claps her hands and snaps me back.

The club looms in front of us like a palace made of light. VIVID s spelled out in massive neon letters across the front, pink and purple and electric blue bleeding into each other. The entrance is all black glass and chrome, with velvet ropes held by bouncers.

There’s a red carpet from the sidewalk to the doors, and I can hear the bass thumping even from out here, feel it vibrating in my chest.

People are lined up down the block but they’re all watching the VIP entrance where we’re standing.

Teddy comes out of nowhere and Eden spots her from across the pavement. The moment he lays eyes on her, his whole face changes. She jumps at him and he catches her like she weighs nothing, lifting her off the ground and spinning her once before setting her down.

The bouncers see them coming and wave them through.

Slade looks up from his phone and snorts.

I haven’t really talked to him since Amira’s birthday. Not properly. He usually comes around, finds me, says something stupid to make me roll my eyes. But tonight? He’s glued to that phone and he has been cursing under his breath. Heard him snap at his beta three times just during the drive here. Whatever going on, it’s eating him alive.

“Sabrina!?” I say when I spot her, and honestly? She’s gorgeous. This blue outfit…some kind of short dress situation hits every curve perfectly. I bite my lip, trying to signal her to look at Slade maybe pull him off that damn phone.

She heeds to my signal.

Sabrina walks straight up to him and plucks the phone right out of his hand.

“Dude, I’m-”

“I’m not dude. It’s Sabrina.” She smiles at him sweetly, and I watch their interaction.

“I already booked a booth for you guys….VIP floor.” Tiffany hands out the passes. “So go in, here you go.”

Sabrina hooks her arm through Slade’s and drags him toward the entrance.

I’m about to follow when Tiffany grabs my arm and yanks me back.

“And you come here!”

“OMG, I was gonna say hi to Teddy!” I pretend, opening my arms.

Teddy takes the hug and squeezes tight. “How are you? I heard from my brother that you’re painting the Alpha wing.”

“Yes, I am…”

“Oh and don’t worry, I didn’t tell anybody about that ish.” She winks, and I chuckle, nodding.

“Come on, let’s go dance.” She bites her lip at Eden, who is obsessed with her….like, genuinely cannot look anywhere else and they disappear through the black glass doors.

“We are not going to the dance floor?” I ask.

“We are definitely going to the dance floor.” Tiffany corrects, pulling me forward.

The bouncers unhook the velvet rope and we pass through the entrance.
