And that’s when I see males. Lots of them. Looking at me. Whispering to each other with me in their eyes. It’s obvious the way their heads turn when I move, the way they nudge their friends, the way they stare openly like I’m supposed to be flattered. I pretend I don’t see them.

All of a sudden, I catch a scent that commands every nerve in my body.

Emris.

For all the time I’ve perceived his scent, it’s been real so I stop moving and look around the dancing floor.

Bodies and bodies and bodies are everywhere with lights flashing too fast. I can’t tell where he is but I know he’s here. I can feel him the way you feel a storm coming.

I keep searching, hand going to my chest like I can calm my own heartbeat, and then I see someone.

In the corner of the club, near the edge of the VIP area where the lights barely reach. A figure in a hoodie…blue hoodie, pulled up over their head. Body wide like a mascot, broad shoulders…standing completely still while everyone around them

moves.

Watching me.

I can’t see his face. His hands are in his pockets. But the way he’s looking at me…even without seeing his eyes, I feel it. That look that says it’s me. You know it’s me.

And if it’s him? Why don’t I make this look worth his while.

I turn deliberately toward the men who’ve been checking me out and I start dancing.

I caress my hands over my thighs…up, down, bending slightly to let my back arch. My ass moves. I bring one hand up to my chest, trailing over the curve, pretending I’m lost in the music while I know exactly what I’m doing.

I keep my eyes away from the mountain in the blue hoodie. Don’t look. Don’t give him the satisfaction of knowing I know he’s there.

All of a sudden, his voice pierces through our mind link channel

“Demi. Stop it. Now!”

My head snaps toward the corner. I don’t see him there anymore. The club lights blink into darkness for half a second, then flicker back. Black to blue. Blue to-

The light comes back and shines on his face but I already know’s Emris is right in front of me.

His eyes are burning like he doesn’t know whether to drag me out of here or devour me on this floor.

Emris.

“What are you doing here!?” She speaks back through our mind nk…. the one that’s become stronger with each subsequent connections.

“Came to check if you were alright.” I say, but even as the words leave my mind, I realize how stupid they sound. A person who’s heard about the rumours of her pack’s territory wouldn’t be doing a sexual dance that aggravates every possessive

Especially not in front of Kael Voss. That arrogant prick from the Shadow Crest pack who is standing right there at the edge of the VIP floor, drink in hand, watching my mate like she’s a piece of meat he’s about to order. He’s got that smirk on his face cause thinks he’s heaven’s gift to every woman with a pulse,

I’ve hated him since the first Alpha summit we both attended.

That’s just one of them.

“Alright?” Pretty little Demetra pouts at me through the link, and I feel it everywhere.

Her white, lustrous hair is pulled into a flowy long tail while the rest is swept into a low bun and it’s somehow the sexiest thing I’ve seen all my life. In that black outfit, I can see her pale white ass. White as her hair. Barely covered by that scrap of fabric she calls a dress.

I can see it.

All these fucking men here can see it!

I want to gut them for looking at her thighs. At her cleavage in that provocative halter-top.

She was always sexy in every form. I have always obsessed with her body and I’m a grown wolf enough to know that birthing a pup changes a female’s body. And Demetra? She’s changed into a fucking goddess. Hips that don’t quit. A waist that somehow got smaller while everything else got more. Breasts that are fuller, softer, made to be touched.

“Why wouldn’t I be alright? How did you know I was here, Squirrel Alpha?”

I raise one cheek in laughter at that. Squirrel Alpha. She’s still calling me that.

“Heard Teddy over the phone.”

I try to frown again cause I don’t like this scene.

She tries to walk past me, but I step into her path. Where the fuck does she think she’s going? To dance some more? To let more men look? My hand is twitching to rip the lungs out of these bastards if she’s not on her best behavior.

I know she saw me before she decided to walk in front of those bloodsucking idiots and massage her curves in front of Kael specifically. She knew I was watching. She wanted me to watch.

“You’re blocking me, sir.”

“It’s intentional. I’m possessive.”

“How can an already bonded dude be possessive of another woman?” Her eyes flash. “I’ve told you…you’re not the only Alpha I’ve had under me. So beat it.”

She mind links and just when she’s about to move again, I block her again. Her chest mushes into mine and the sensation of it lands directly in my cock. I don’t move back. Don’t want to.

“I’m here now. You don’t need to have other Alphas.”

She stares at me for a long moment. Then, without a word, she walks around me.

I let

her. For exactly three seconds.

She heads toward the dancing area where more males are moving, but they’ve seen me. They know who I am by scent, by

reputation, by the way the air changes when I enter a room. I’m an hybrid Alpha. Something even other Alphas think twice about. They know I don’t issue warnings.

They’ve seen me speak to her, and they make a choice.

One by one, they turn away. The guys near where she’s heading suddenly find their drinks very interesting. A group of three Alphas who were watching her earlier melt back into the crowd. Kael Voss puts distance between himself and my mate like she’s contagious.

She stands alone on the edge of the dance floor as men literally walk away from her.

Demetra turns back to look at me in pure, beautiful anger.

I fix a smirk on my face and watch her storm off the dance floor,

“You’re ruining my fun!” She yells at me now that the music is thumping lesser near the booth area.

“Fun?” I raise an eyebrow. “You call that fun? I didn’t know you could dance so provocatively like that.”

“Oh, but you don’t know anything about me, Alpha Emris.” She walks to a booth and picks up her purse. “You didn’t even know I was scared of raccoons.”

I blink.

“I still have to find someone who isn’t scared of you that I can take home tonight-”

“Demetra! I told you Elena and I don’t love each other. Well…I don’t love her. I married her for Milo. And still you don’t care. What do I have to do for your forgiveness? More barghests? Fine let it happen. Let them eat my arm off-”

“Okay, what am I supposed to do with that information?”
