Where The lee Gives Way
Chapter 220 Pancakes Before Interrogation
Charlotte
I keep catching myself looking at Emily.
I try not to make it obvious enough for Theo to start growling at me. I even bite the inside of my cheek to stop myself from smiling too such Beca the mark on her neck. I’m not blind. But I’m also not going to say anything about it, not yet anyway, I wait until there are no boys amand and ! every single question without Theo puffing up like a proud idiot in the corner,
For now, I’ll just sit and watch her in her little afterglow.
She looks happy.
After everything Munroe took from her, that feels like something worth protecting.
Across from me, Charlie is still pretending he is mad.
He has one elbow on the table, his fork pointed in my direction, and the exact look on his face he used to give me when we were kids and he knew
hidden something from him.
Before he can start again now, Mara sets another plate on the table, and everyone shifts around to make room for more toust, bacon, and pancakes.
Theo starts talking about hockey because he really cannot go more than an hour without mentioning the ice, and Charlie jumps in quickly, asking if tr is back on this week. Blake says it should be, now that everyone is home, though he needs to check with Gareth first. There are still the new park me
to settle, rooms to organise, and extra patrols to rotate through until Munroe is fully handed over to Franklin.
Charlie starts talking excitedly about wanting to get back on the ice, and Theo/tells him he had better not be rusty after missing a few rounds of practic
Blake says Charlie already skates better than half the team, which makes my brother sit a little straighter, even though he tries to pretend he doesn’t lo

Emily listens to all of it with quiet interest, her fingers curled around her mug.
That is when the thought slips in. I glance at her again, taking in the way she sits beside Theo, wrapped in his hoodie with colour in her cheeks and a ba
smile still lingering near her mouth. She looks like she might actually be able to picture it now, so I keep my voice casual when I ask, “Hey, Eny, have you
thought about whether you want to come to school with us soon?”
“School?”
“Only if you want to,” I say quickly. “No pressure. I just thought, since you’re a little more comfortable now, and we’re all going to be there throughout the
days, you could come with us. It might be nice.”
Gareth sets his coffee down, his expression gentle as he turns his attention to us. “Charlotte is right. If or when you are ready, I can get you called edity
There is no rush,” Gareth continues. “You have had a great deal happen in a very short time, and no one expects you so pretext otherwise. But cuts

The souls “Pi-be the only one showing her around.”
Emily laughs, and the sound eases the last bit of tension in the room.
She looks down at her tea for a moment, then back up at Gareth. “Actually,” she says, quiet but certain, would love to go to shoot.
Theo’s smile spreads so wide it almost takes over his whole face.
Gareth seems happy too, but careful not to make too much fuss about it. “That’s great ‘ll call the principal today and get everything sorted. If fom
not too soon, you can join the others then.”
Emily’s eyes widen a little, but she bites her lip. “No, tomorrow would be great.”
Mara is clearly already thinking three steps ahead. “We’ll need uniforms.”
“She can borrow some of mine until we get her proper ones,” I say. “I have spares.”
Emily turns to me. “Are you sure?”
“Of course. They might be a little short on you, but we’ll survive.”
Theo’s eyes narrow. “She can’t have anything that’s too short.”
Emily laughs again as I wave off his possessive wolf, and I decide right then that I want to hear that sound at school too. I want her at our table, in c
hallways, beside us at the rink after classes. I’m excited to have my friend experience life with me.
“Have you ever skated?” I ask her.
She shakes her head. “No. I don’t think I’d be any good on the ice.”
“You have to try at least once.”
Theo perks up at that. “Why don’t we head to the rink this afternoon? All of us. Just muck around for a bit.”
I sit forward, keen to get back on the ice myself. “Why don’t we go now?”
Emily bites her lip, glancing at Theo. “Actually, I was going to go and pack up my things from the rehabilitation building and move them over to Thea &
[ house.”
My eyebrows shoot up to the roof. I mean, I knew they were getting serious, obviously. The evidence is gather neck. But they’re that serious
“Oh, really?” I ask, smiling slowly. “We’re moving in now?”
Emily rolls her eyes, but there is a big smirk tugging at her mouth. “Shut up.”
“I will for now,” I tell her. “But we are talking about this later.”
Thee points at me with his fork and a half playful scowl. “No bullying my mate
“Oh please, this is friendship.”
