Whispers of Destiny: His Belated Love novel Chapter 180

Having pretty much wrapped up all the family visits, and with work resuming on the 7th, Oswald organized a team-building outing for the studio crew at the golf course.

The original plan was to go hiking, but with several days of snowfall making the paths slippery and a few older members in the studio, we all agreed to switch it up for something less intense like golf.

For those not into swinging clubs, they could still take a stroll around.

Rosemary never expected to bump into Martin and Archer here.

Decked out in sportswear, they looked like they just stepped off the green, sweat still glistening on their foreheads.

Martin spotted her first: “Rosemary, what a coincidence, you here to play some golf?”

Rosemary replied, “Company team-building.”

Martin, seeing her looking fresh, figured she hadn't been there long and jerked his chin toward the course, "Wanna play a round?"

Not being a fan of golf, Rosemary shook her head, declining the offer.

Archer, mopping his brow with a towel, chimed in, “I'm heading out, got plans with the Alcott family.”

The mention of the Alcott family reminded Rosemary of that day on the mountaintop when Maxwell mentioned that the fireworks were Archer's idea to woo a woman, and he was just testing them out.

Not wanting to get caught in such a scenario again, she called out to Archer, “Archer.”

He nodded in her direction, “What's up?”

“Every woman reacts differently to courtship. What moves me might not cut it for Ms. Alcott, so next time you've got a bright idea, maybe try it directly with the person involved.”

Archer, sharp as a tack, pieced together the cryptic comments from Maxwell and Rosemary's words today, and it didn't take him long to figure out the whole story.

He raised an eyebrow, a sly smile forming, “If I may ask, what did Maxwell do to try and win you over?”

Though Rosemary didn't see Maxwell's actions as courtship, she didn't bother clarifying and simply wished Archer wouldn't concoct any more dodgy schemes for others to test: “Fireworks.”

Archer grinned, offering no cover for his buddy he'd grown up with, and threw some shade: “Sorry, but I can't think of such a low move to impress a lady. Ms. Chambers, for the sake of your past marriage, you might want to get him checked out. If it's serious, it might be too late to cure.”

Rosemary: “…”

Archer seemed genuinely pressed for time, gave a slight nod to her, and took off.

Martin chuckled softly, “Rosemary, you don't know Yvonne. She's not one to mess with. If Archer tried fireworks with her, she'd probably stuff them in his mouth and tell him to swallow with a smile.”

Rosemary, initially skeptical since Maxwell never struck her as one to lie, couldn't help but believe after Martin's comment.

Glancing at his watch – no longer the one Maxwell had given him – Martin asked, “Dinner tonight?”

Rosemary declined, “No need, we've got plans with the company for the team-building.”

Knowing Martin's intentions and having no interest in a relationship, she didn't want to lead him on or cause unnecessary misunderstandings.

Martin nodded, not pressing the issue, and looking past her said, “Looks like your colleague’s looking for you, better go.”

The team-building wrapped up in the afternoon, and the office crew, usually deskbound and grinding away, were beat and ready to drop on the spot. Oswald had wanted to wrap up with a dinner, but everyone just wanted to hit the hay.
