Rosemary cocked a sly grin, tilting her head as she mockingly eyed the agitated Maxwell before her: "Mr. Templeton, if I’m not making money, where am I supposed to come up with that $300 million to repay you?”
Maxwell choked on his words a bit, “I never asked you to repay me.”
He had only brought up the repayment to deter her from divorcing him, but once she insisted on going through with it, he never mentioned it again. Even the new divorce agreement he had prepared didn’t include that clause. However, Rosemary, eager to shake him off, had signed it without so much as a glance.
Caught off guard, Rosemary paused for a moment before responding indifferently: “Better to clear the air. After all, we did agree it was a loan.”
“So, you’re dead set on working at Martin’s company?”
“Yes.”
Maxwell watched her face, letting out a soft, mocking laugh: “Is it for the money, or is it for him?”
A flash of irritation crossed Rosemary’s eyes, and just as Maxwell thought she was about to throw a jab at him, she snatched the contract from his hand: “What’s it to you? Ex-husband.”
The elevator arrived, the doors opened, and a swarm of people flooded out. Rosemary seized the moment, pushing past Maxwell and slipping in like a slick fish.
And there Maxwell stood, watching helplessly as the doors closed before him.
...
That afternoon, the server took the initiative to add Rosemary on WhatsApp: Sis.
He even included an obedient-looking picture.
Staring at the image, Rosemary could hardly believe that such a well-behaved guy was actually a player: Are you interested in a side gig? Shooting a few hand double scenes.
Server: Sure thing. So, sis, are you an actor or director for this show?
Knowing he was up for some moonlighting, Rosemary pushed his WhatsApp details to Director Madden, then after a quick heads-up, she blocked him. Her WhatsApp was for clients and acquaintances only.
Director Madden: Alright, the show airs at 8 tonight. If you’ve got a Twitter, give it a shout-out.
Though he said this, he wasn't holding his breath. Even though Rose had some clout in their little circle, their collective reach probably didn't even hit 50k. The last documentary had been a hit, but mostly because people were shipping Rose and Hans, plus there was curiosity about her face.
He had also invited Hans, but since the show’s first season had male and female guests recording separately, the plan was to stir up some virtual chemistry between them, but then Maxwell came out of nowhere.
Thinking about stirring up a romance was like counting chickens before they hatched.
And now, after all the editing, with the air time set, the two had split. It wasn’t just a break-up; they dragged another dancer, Victoria, into the fray.
It was a full-blown scandal with infidelity and a love triangle.
This was just... a real mess.
At this point, he just hoped the show wouldn’t make him a target of public anger. As a director, he still had to try to salvage what he could.
