Logan reached out a hand, gesturing for her to come closer.
Sloane walked over to him.
Fresh from the shower, the scent of her skin was even more intoxicating.
The second she crawled onto the mattress, he pulled her into his lap, pressing kisses along her jaw.
The slight stubble on his chin tickled her skin, making her squirm.
"Stop," she murmured.
As soon as the word left her mouth, she shocked herself.
When had her voice gotten so soft and breathy?
Was this the secret language couples unlocked after crossing that line?
She had lived in dorms all through high school and college. She remembered how completely normal girls would suddenly adopt this sweet, breathy pitch the second they got a boyfriend.
Only around their boyfriends, of course.
She used to hear the other girls whispering behind their backs: *They definitely slept together.*
Back then, she had just been mildly curious.
Apparently, sex triggered some sort of chemical reaction, completely altering a couple's habits, their dynamic, and even their vocal cords.
And now...
Logan, clearly still hungry for her, kissed her cheek once more before pulling back slightly. "Why were you drinking today?"
Sloane went silent, refusing to answer.
Logan pulled her tighter against his chest. "You don't want to tell me? Or do you just not trust me?"
"It's complicated," Sloane sighed.
To explain it, she would have to unpack her parents' divorce, Tristan's harassment, and Miles's unwanted heroics.
Two men fought over her, and she was supposed to complain about it to her actual husband?
What an absolute, exhausting mess!
"Let's just drop it. I'm already forgetting about it anyway," Sloane told him.
After such an intense, mind-blowing session in bed, all her pent-up frustration had been completely burned away. She genuinely felt fine now.
"Where were you these past few days?" she asked him instead.
Logan paused for a second. "The Middle East."
"Over there again?" Sloane asked, failing to hide her disappointment.
"Yeah, but I won't have to go back as often."
"Really?" Her eyes lit up.
Logan kissed her forehead. "But..."
"But what?"
