Larry Reed quickly flagged down a junior staff member to escort Sloane and Zoe to the department's guest house.
Miles followed them out the door.
But halfway there, he suddenly spun around and marched back inside.
Seeing him return, Larry blinked in confusion. "Hey, weren't you with those two girls just now? What exactly is your line of work?"
Miles set his luggage down and pulled out his military ID, holding it out for Larry to see.
"You're a Captain..." Larry said, his expression turning respectful as he stood up to shake Miles's hand.
After shaking hands, Miles got straight to the point. "Those two girls from earlier—why not assign them to South Reef Island? Doesn't the island have its own hospital?"
"South Reef Island?" Larry's eyes widened in surprise. "We've sent support staff there before, but it requires incredibly strict clearance. After all, the nature of the hospital on that base is very different."
"What's so different about it? Aren't we all serving the people?" Miles countered smoothly. "Besides, those girls are stunning. If you toss them into some remote village clinic, you're practically throwing them to the wolves. The island has an active military garrison; no one would dare mess with them there."
Larry wrung his hands nervously. "I'd have to run that up the flagpole. We wouldn't get an answer until tomorrow at the earliest."
Just as Larry finished speaking, a female supervisor walked into the office.
She caught the tail end of the conversation. "Run what up the flagpole?"
Larry breathed a sigh of relief. "Perfect timing, ma'am. It's like this: we just received two female doctors from Capital City for a medical mission. I was stressing over where to place them, but this Captain here just suggested assigning them to South Reef Island."
Hearing that Miles was a Captain, the supervisor immediately stepped forward to shake his hand.
