But what was the point now?
Perhaps it was all just a mission to him.
Sloane swallowed hard. "I'm doing great."
She didn't ask, 'And you?'
Yet Logan answered anyway, "I'm doing well, too."
Sloane took a deep breath, forcing down the lump in her throat. "Did you call for a specific reason?"
Logan had to grasp at straws. "I'm not living at Valentine Towers anymore. If it's inconvenient for you to stay wherever you are, you can move back in."
He moved out?
He probably realized their marriage was dead in the water and left.
Sloane replied, "No need. I have a place to stay."
With that, she hung up.
The moment the line went dead, her tears finally broke free, sliding down her cheeks.
Just then, Dr. Rosalie Reed walked in.
Noticing Sloane's distress, she couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong?"
Sloane wiped her face quickly. "Nothing. I think I'm just a little homesick."
Rosalie, being in her forties, smiled knowingly. "It's always like this at first. But you're just here on a support rotation. Once your time is up, you can leave. Your original hospital might even recall you early."
Sloane quickly countered, "I actually really like it here."
Rosalie just gave a faint smile, having the look of someone who saw through the lie but wouldn't press it.
She didn't believe a female doctor as young and beautiful as Sloane would stay in a place like this long-term.
To escape the awkwardness, Sloane stepped out into the hallway.
After letting the cool breeze calm her down, she suddenly spotted a tall, broad-shouldered figure outside!
He was supporting another tall man as they walked toward the military base.
Sloane almost cried out, "Logan!"
But then she quickly corrected herself. It couldn't be him.
Logan was probably back in the Middle East right now.
There was no way he was military.
