Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 147

Sloane had planned to head back to her dorm and make some pasta, but Zoe came looking for her.

Zoe gave her a look of disbelief. "You eat pasta every single night. Don't you get sick of it?"

"Sick of it?" Sloane genuinely didn't think so.

She was a good cook. Day one could be pesto pasta, day two spaghetti bolognese, day three mac and cheese, day four spicy arrabbiata...

But Zoe didn't realize Sloane possessed such a diverse culinary repertoire. Every time she asked what was for dinner, Sloane simply answered, "Pasta."

Zoe linked arms with Sloane, whining playfully, "Sloane, come on. Let's go to the market, buy some fresh seafood, and cook a real meal together."

Sloane looked down at the bundle of dried spaghetti in her hand.

Zoe snatched it away and shoved it back into the pantry. "Stop eating this stuff! It tastes like cardboard!"

Being from the north, Zoe firmly believed that only fresh artisan pasta was worth eating. Store-bought, dried spaghetti barely counted as food.

Between the aggressive pantry raid and Zoe clinging to her arm, Sloane felt incredibly awkward and reluctantly let herself be dragged out.

Once they stepped outside the hospital doors, Sloane subtly slipped her arm free from Zoe's grip.

With the ocean breeze hitting her face, she instantly felt much more comfortable.

The two walked down to the local market.

Although it was getting dark, there was still plenty of fresh seafood available, kept chilled on ice by the fishermen who caught it that morning.

They picked out a fish and waited for the vendor to clean and debone it. As they stood there, Sloane noticed a group of people standing a short distance away, pointing and whispering about her.

Turning her head, she immediately recognized the pale, plump face of Brenda Gable.
