Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 155

Walter grabbed his arm. "Don't bother. If everyone crowds together, we won't catch a damn thing. Let's cast our lines on this side."

Logan caught the gleam in Walter's eye, then noticed Zoe standing nearby. It instantly clicked.

He cursed internally. *Old men really love playing matchmaker!*

Tonight, Hugo and Rosalie had both brought their spouses.

Hugo's wife ran a business in the city, and Rosalie's husband was stationed on the base.

Even the nurses had brought their boyfriends or partners. Sloane acutely felt like a massive third wheel.

To spare them her awkward presence, she quietly drifted further down the rocky shore to fish alone.

Seeing her walk away, Rosalie called out, "Sloane, be careful over there!"

"I will!" Sloane called back.

With her husband by her side, Rosalie let it go.

Not far away, Logan had just dropped his line over the rocks when his entire body went rigid. The hand gripping his fishing rod trembled slightly.

He swore he had just heard Sloane's voice!

But as the ocean breeze passed, everything returned to normal. The only sounds were the crashing waves and the faint chatter of people in the distance.

There was no sign of Sloane anywhere.

He frowned in confusion. Was he just missing her that much?

Just then, Walter found an excuse to bail. "You two fish here for a bit. I'm going to check on the others."

Both Logan and Zoe knew Walter was intentionally giving them alone time.

But neither called him out on it.

Logan fished in stony silence. Zoe cast her line, stealing several glances at him.

Finally, she couldn't take the silence anymore. "Major Lennox, I'm Zoe."

"I know," Logan replied flatly. "Walter told me the other night."

Zoe hesitated. "And... what's your first name?"

"Logan. You can just call me Logan."

Zoe felt that was a bit too casual since he outranked her and was older. "I'll call you Luke, then."
