Since Logan had left early, Zoe found herself bored and decided to head back to the yacht to keep Sloane company.
Noticing Zoe's deflated posture, Sloane asked softly, "How did it go with the Major tonight?"
Zoe let out a heavy sigh. "Dead in the water. He's not interested at all."
Sloane wasn't great at comforting people. After a moment of thought, she offered, "It's alright. The timing just wasn't right."
Zoe still looked a bit heartbroken. "I know where I stand. He's so out of my league. I'm not good enough for him."
"Don't put yourself down. You deserve someone amazing."
"He even saved your life tonight," Zoe murmured. "The waves were so dangerous by those rocks, but he dragged you all the way to the beach. I honestly thought... I kind of wished it had been me who fell in."
Sloane froze. "Wait. The person who saved me... was Major Lennox?"
"Yeah, you didn't know?"
"I had no idea. I passed out in the water. I was just thinking about finding him to say thank you once I got my strength back."
"Too late. He already left."
"Already?"
"Walter tricked him into coming here. He never wanted to go on a blind date. He was probably furious."

Sloane couldn't just let it go. Someone had saved her life; she owed him her deepest gratitude.
The next day, she found Walter and asked for her savior's contact information.
Having been chewed out by Logan the night before, Walter didn't dare say too much.
Besides, he'd set Logan up with Zoe yesterday, and now Sloane was asking about him. Logan would definitely think it was another trap.
Walter stroked his chin thoughtfully. "Well, the Major is a highly principled man. He does good deeds without expecting anything in return. You really don't need to thank him. He's a soldier—if he saw anyone fall in, he'd jump in after them."
"Does he just not want to see us?" Sloane asked. "It's fine if we don't meet face-to-face. I just want to express my gratitude."
