"Why?"
"She has the wrong idea about me," Logan said softly. "I want to approach her slowly. Let her get to know the real me."
As he spoke, his eyes never left the figure on the balcony.
He waited until she finally went back inside before turning to leave.
A faint, unconscious smile touched his lips.

After finishing her laundry, Sloane realized she'd left the hanging pole outside.
The coastal winds were brutal at night; the pole would easily blow away.
She stepped back out onto the balcony to grab it.
As she reached for it, her eyes caught a tall, broad-shouldered figure standing in the distance.
Logan?
She blinked and shook her head.
The man had already stepped into the shadows, making it impossible to see his face.
Why was she thinking about him so much lately?
A dull ache settled in her chest.
They hadn't spoken a single word since that disastrous phone call.
How was he doing?
Had he completely forgotten about her?
Sloane stood there in the cold wind for a long time, staring at the empty street.

Early the next morning, someone knocked on Sloane's door.
It was a young man in his early twenties.
He offered a crisp salute. "Ma'am, I'm Dustin, the assistant to Major Lennox. The Major asked me to deliver this letter to you."
Sloane took the envelope, surprised.
She hadn't expected a reply.
Opening it, she found a neatly typed letter in a crisp font.
*Dr. Sutton,*
