Walter was baffled. "Why are you asking about that?"
"Just answer the damn question!" Logan snapped.
Walter winced. *This kid is unhinged today.*
"Yes, her name is Sloane Sutton."
"From Capital City?"
"Yes, Capital City!"
"Twenty-eight years old?"
"I think so!"
Logan fired off the rest of the details in one breath. "She has a PhD, specializes in neurosurgery, is about five-foot-six, is completely obsessed with her work, sucks at office politics, and is stunningly beautiful."
Walter paused to think. "The first part all matches. The last part is subjective, but objectively speaking, yes, she's gorgeous."
"Is she married?"
"Married, yes. Said she got matched through the Civil Affairs Bureau, but it's a marriage of convenience. They plan to divorce as soon as the mandatory period is up."
Logan gripped the phone tightly. "She's my wife!"
"What?!" Walter gasped in pure shock.
A heavy silence stretched between the two men over the line.
Walter finally broke it. "Well, I really messed up playing matchmaker then, didn't I? Are you coming over to see her?"
Logan had managed to rein in his adrenaline. "No."
"What exactly happened between you two? Didn't you say your wife would only ever stay in Capital City? You just got back here, and she suddenly transfers to the island? But she clearly didn't recognize you."
Logan was just as confused. "Why did she transfer to your hospital?"
"Medical support rotation. As to why they sent her to our specific island, I have no idea. That's the health bureau's doing. But I can tell you this much: doctors usually only volunteer for remote deployments if they have a savior complex, or if they're being forced out of their home hospital."
"Look into it for me," Logan ordered.
"I'm a hospital director, not your private investigator..."
