She had always been a quiet, well-behaved girl. She was painfully average, cared about little outside of her studies, and never had boys chasing after her. Yet somehow, this year, she was suddenly drowning in romantic chaos.

Miles glared at Logan with furious disbelief. "Major Lennox, have some decency! Don't use your military intimidation tactics to try and claim a woman! Sloane is not your wife."

Logan let out a dark, mocking laugh. "Since when does a mere Captain dictate my actions?"

Turning back to Sloane, Miles pleaded, "Sloane, don't let him scare you. Even if he is a Major, he can't force you into anything. We're on a military base!"

Unfazed, Logan calmly reached into his pocket, pulled out their marriage certificate, and handed it directly to the medical commander. "I have the paperwork."

Miles's eyes widened in horror. He leaned in, staring at the names on the document as if hoping it was a forgery.

He whipped his head back toward Sloane.

She didn't say a word to deny it.

She was, however, deeply shocked that Logan had actually brought their marriage certificate to a combat drill!

Miles felt his entire world crumble.

It made sickening sense. Sloane had told him from the beginning that she was married.

But why Logan?

The two of them weren't even supposed to know each other.

Logan walked over and sat casually on the edge of Sloane's bed. "Let's go home."

Sloane immediately shook her head.

She didn't want or need anyone's help.

Catching her refusal, Miles firmly positioned himself between Logan and the bed. "Whether you're her husband or not, you need her consent before you take her anywhere!"

Logan's expression turned frigid. "Captain, you're overstepping your bounds."

"Domestic abuse isn't exactly rare these days," Miles shot back defiantly. "Besides, Sloane went through hell before coming to this island, and you were nowhere to be found. It's obvious she doesn't consider you her husband."

Logan let out another humorless scoff. "We had a misunderstanding. It's been cleared up."

He reached out and gently enveloped Sloane's hand in his. "Isn't that right, Sloane?"
