Afraid that taking things any further might aggravate her injuries, he forced himself to stop.
As he pulled back from her lips, he saw her eyes lightly shut and her eyelashes trembling softly—just like how she used to look when he kissed her back at Valentine Towers.

That night, they lay together in the master bedroom.
Perhaps knowing Logan was finally back gave Sloane a profound sense of security, because she slept incredibly soundly.
She even let out soft, rhythmic breaths as she dreamed.
Logan, however, was wide awake, his heart itching with unresolved tension.
But knowing her body was still healing, he gritted his teeth and held back.
The moon was full tonight, casting a brilliant silver glow through the window that illuminated Sloane's luminous face. She looked beautiful and ethereal, like a sleeping goddess.
Logan still couldn't wrap his head around it.
What exactly had gotten into her?
How had she forgiven him in just a matter of days?
But thinking back carefully, aside from the harsh words he had spoken at the restaurant, he hadn't really done anything wrong.
He hadn't explicitly told her he was in the military because he genuinely believed she already knew.
Sloane was a highly educated woman; with her intelligence, how could she not have understood him?
Having rationalized it in his head, Logan finally allowed himself to drift off to sleep.

With Logan back, the responsibility of caring for Sloane naturally shifted entirely to him.
He woke up early every morning to make her breakfast.
However, his culinary skills left much to be desired. He only knew how to make basic scrambled eggs and toast.
After choking it down for two days straight, Sloane politely suggested, "Why don't we just get food from the base cafeteria? They have more variety, better nutrition, and most importantly, it's less of a hassle for you."
Logan understood her perfectly and began going downstairs to fetch her meals every day.
Every time he brought the food, Sloane would thank him politely. "Thank you, I appreciate it."
Logan grew increasingly perplexed.
"Why are you being so formal?" he asked.
"You went out of your way to get me food. Shouldn't I say thank you?" Sloane replied.
