Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 187

In that split second, Sloane distinctly felt Logan's entire body stiffen.

After a brief pause, he answered smoothly, "No."

"Oh. Then why is there a guitar in the apartment?"

Logan glanced toward the corner as if he had just noticed it himself. Wanting to prevent her from overthinking, he quickly replied, "It belongs to a buddy of mine. He forgot to take it back. I'll have Dustin pick it up tomorrow."

Sloane didn't push the subject further.

If she kept digging, she would just sound like a jealous, paranoid wife.

And she was certain Logan wouldn't want a woman who spent her time fighting imaginary ghosts.

The next day, Dustin arrived exactly as promised to retrieve the guitar.

Seeing Sloane sitting in the living room, Dustin nervously scratched the back of his neck and lied through his teeth. "This guitar... uh, it's Dash's. Yeah, Dash left it at the boss's place."

Sloane just nodded calmly, not saying a word.

Dustin quickly added, "Our boss definitely doesn't play guitar. And even if he dabbled in it a little bit a long time ago, that's all completely in the past. Seriously, Ma'am, don't overthink it."

Sloane offered a polite smile. "Should I be overthinking it?"

"Of course not! There's absolutely nothing to worry about, right?"

As Dustin hurriedly backed out the door, the neck of the oversized acoustic guitar slammed against the doorframe. The impact caused the strings to vibrate loudly, letting out a dissonant chord that echoed through the hallway like an angry protest.

Sloane remembered what Director Walter Lucas had told her—Logan had been dumped by women twice. One of them had been her. The previous one had to be the ex-girlfriend.

She and Logan had only ended up together because of a blind government assignment.

But the ex-girlfriend? They must have been together purely out of love.

Days flowed into weeks, marked by their quiet, domestic routine.

Once Sloane's injuries were practically healed, it was time for her to return to work.
