Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 198

Flynn shifted uncomfortably. "Well, about that..."

"Just spit it out. Stop stuttering."

Flynn looked at Sloane. "Ma'am, do you mind if we talk in private for a second?"

Zoe crossed her arms. "Oh, so it's classified now?"

Flynn forced a smile. "She's family. She has clearance."

Zoe rolled her eyes. "Fine, we're outsiders. Go chat."

Sloane and Flynn walked over to a quiet spot down the beach. Flynn sighed. "Ma'am, the boss should really be the one telling you this, but I'm worried he won't explain it properly. For the sake of his future happiness, I think I need to clear the air."

"Go ahead," Sloane said.

Logan's team was fiercely loyal to him.

Whether she believed it or not was up to her.

Flynn carefully chose his words, deciding to start with the catalyst. "When Leo answered the phone, did you hear the name Zahir?"

"Yes, I did."

Flynn nodded. "Zahir is the head of The Blade-Flame Syndicate. He's a ghost. Even we don't know what he actually looks like."

Sloane asked, "So he's the guy calling the shots for Sterling and Sebastian, right?"

"It's way deeper than that. Think of them like a massive cartel. They have cells all over the world. Sterling and Sebastian were just low-level grunts in one specific cell. The absolute most we'll get out of interrogating Sebastian is the name of their direct handler. It will never lead back to Zahir."

"So your team's mission is to wipe out this syndicate?"

Flynn shook his head. "Not exactly, though it aligns with our broader objectives. But you must have wondered why someone of Logan's rank is still leading a frontline tactical unit like ours, right? It's because he's obsessed with hunting down this syndicate. He wants to drag Zahir in himself."

"Why?" Sloane asked.

Hearing her ask 'why' made Flynn internally cringe.
