"Go," Sloane told him firmly. "The mission comes first!"
Logan pressed a hard kiss to her lips. "Wait for me."
After he left, Sloane suddenly felt as if the room had never been so overwhelmingly empty.
She rested her head on his pillow, inhaling his fading scent as the reality of his absence settled over her.

Logan and the team were already aboard the transport plane.
A violent rebellion had just erupted in the country of Solisia, and The Sea Dragon Elite Unit was deployed to evacuate their citizens.
The flight would take three hours. It was fully dark outside, and the operators sat silently in the cargo hold, resting their eyes and preserving their energy for the brutal fight ahead.
After an hour of downtime, the tension in the cabin shifted as everyone fully woke up.
Flynn broke the silence first. "How did Solisia implode so fast? There was zero chatter about this."
Dash nodded in agreement. "Usually, a country throws off red flags before a full-blown civil war. Solisia is weird. Just a week ago, I saw news about the two faction leaders holding a peace summit."
Danielle scoffed. "The place went to hell six months ago. You guys were just kept in the dark."
Every head snapped toward her.
Leo frowned. "How do you know that, Captain Ziegler? Werent you doing a training rotation overseas?"
Danielle lazily opened her eyes. "You'll understand when we hit the ground."
She cast a sideways glance at Logan.
He met her gaze evenly.
She had mentioned tracking Zale's movements during her overseas stint. Was the 'training' just a cover for a classified black op?

The plane was on final approach to Solisia.
