At that moment, heavy gunfire erupted on the outskirts of the industrial park as government and rebel forces engaged in a fierce firefight.
"Search for the hostages!" Logan Lennox kept his voice low, utilizing drones and thermal imaging to pinpoint their location.
"Found them! Dead ahead at two o'clock, about five hundred yards out. There are over a hundred of them!"
The team crawled forward on their stomachs.
However, before they even closed the distance to three hundred yards, a sudden scream pierced the air ahead of them.
They immediately took cover.
The rebels and government forces ceased their crossfire, settling into a tense standoff.
The reason became clear—a heavily bearded rebel leader, Barrett, dragged a local civilian out into the open.
He shouted a demand.
"Listen up, government forces! Withdraw immediately, or I'll execute these hostages!"
Outside the factory, the government's assault temporarily ground to a halt. An officer raised a megaphone and yelled, "Don't do anything rash! Don't hurt the hostages!"
"Cut the crap!" Barrett sneered. "You have ten minutes! If you don't fall back, I'll kill a hostage every two minutes!"
The moment the words left his mouth, Barrett fired a shot into the hostage's waist, sending blood spraying.
The hostage didn't die but let out an agonizing wail.
