Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 233

"Feeling better?" Sloane asked.

"Much better," Landon replied.

He spread his arms and took a few steady steps toward her to prove his point.

Sloane smiled, genuinely happy for him. "Your recovery is going great."

Landon studied her face for a moment before suggesting, "The environment on this island seems pretty nice. How about you take me for a walk outside?"

Sloane was officially off the clock, so she agreed. "Sure. Let's go feel some Earth breeze."

Worried that he might still be unsteady on his feet, Sloane gently held his elbow to make sure he didn't trip.

The two of them walked out of the hospital and onto the stone-paved path along the coast.

The sea breeze rustled loudly through the palm trees lining the road.

"Earth is still the best. This wind... it makes me feel like I'm back in the world of the living," Landon sighed, taking in a deep, refreshing breath.

"Do you get wind up in space?" Sloane teased.

Landon playfully tapped the tip of her nose. "You're supposed to be a Ph.D., aren't you? I was on a space station. Where would the wind come from? How did you even pass your exams?"

Sloane laughed. "I thought you guys did spacewalks every now and then?"

"Even if we do, we're sealed inside spacesuits. You wouldn't feel the wind anyway." Remembering the breathtaking expanse he had witnessed, Landon's tone softened. "Sloane, if you ever get the chance, you have to go up there and see the universe. When you look at that endless void, you realize all the troubles we have down here are just things we force onto ourselves."

Sloane couldn't help but smile. "You're sounding more and more like a philosopher, Landon."

"That's because I've stood at a completely different altitude."

"You're amazing," Sloane praised him.

Landon looked at her, his eyes tinged with sadness. "Why do I get the feeling you're not happy on this island? When I saw you and Logan together today, it wasn't like the first time."

"What was the first time like?" Sloane asked, feigning curiosity.

"Back then, there was this undeniable gravity between you two. But now, it feels like there's an invisible chasm. You kept avoiding his eyes. Did he do something to upset you?"

Sloane hadn't expected Landon to read her so easily.
