He scoffed. "Absolute garbage."

Zane was shocked. "Wait, you guys have been married for what, not even two weeks? You trust her that much?"

Logan handed the phone back. "Of course I do."

He pulled out a cigarette. Seeing Zane eye it, he casually tossed him one.

Then he pulled out another for himself, lit it, and took a long drag.

Zane pressed, "Your wife is getting framed, and you aren't even going to call and check on her?"

Logan exhaled a plume of smoke. "Nothing to check on. I trust her."

Zane leaned in closer, staring intently into Logan's eyes.

"Well, well, well. Let me guess—was it love at first sight, or are you just totally whipped?"

Logan rolled his eyes. "Shut up."

Zane switched tracks. "But seriously, does she know who you really are?"

"What do you mean 'who I really am'? I'm Logan Lennox."

Zane looked entirely exasperated. "Does she not know you're the eldest son of the Lennox family, and the..."

Logan blew out another long stream of smoke. "Do any of those titles actually matter?"

"Oh, I get it," Zane said knowingly. "You're keeping it a secret to see if she genuinely likes you for you!"

Logan looked at Zane.

He hadn't actually thought that far ahead.

The only reason he hadn't brought it up was that he had gone into this marriage purely to fulfill the social mandate.
