Sloane Sutton was already sitting beside Logan Lennox.
She figured she had done her part by moving closer; now it was his turn to take the initiative.
She waited for him to pull her into an embrace.
Logan gently tilted her chin up.
Not daring to meet his gaze, she squeezed her eyes shut.
She felt him lean in, one hand slipping around her waist and the other sliding behind her knees.
With a seamless lift, he effortlessly pulled her onto his lap, leaving her nestled against his chest like a delicate bird.
Sloane was speechless.
Why did he pull her onto his lap?
She instinctively glanced around.
Thankfully, there was no one they knew in sight.
Right now, she was pressed against his solid chest, perched on his thighs. Terrified of sitting anywhere too sensitive, she couldn't help but inch closer toward the edge of the round table.
But a second later, he pulled her right back.
Their thighs brushed against each other through the fabric of their clothes.
This was her first time being so incredibly intimate with a man.
Logan tilted her chin up again, forcing her to face him.
Sloane's heart hammered against her ribs, beating in a frantic rhythm.
Her mind raced, wondering if he was reacting on pure physical instinct or just fulfilling the mandate's task.
Before she could decide, his lips crashed over hers.
A thirty-second kiss was required...
For the first ten seconds, Sloane actually tried to count.
But as his kiss deepened, the numbers melted away, leaving nothing but the scorching heat between their lips.
His kiss grew more demanding, carrying an irresistible dominance that was simultaneously tender and protective. Without realizing it, Sloane's hands crept up to his shoulders. His skin was burning hot beneath her palms, but she couldn't bring herself to pull away.
The faint, intoxicating scent of mint lingered on his tongue as it tangled with hers. Sloane's mind went completely blank. Her tightly wound nerves unraveled, and every ounce of her logic surrendered to this gentle invasion. She could hear her own heartbeat roaring in her ears, loud and frantic like a drum, yet somehow, she felt profoundly safe.
She even found herself kissing him back.
Sloane had no idea how long the kiss lasted.
