Landon drove them out to a rustic farm-to-table restaurant on the outskirts of town.
The moment Lydia spotted the sign for crispy roast duck, her eyes lit up like fireworks.
"I've been surviving on dry jerky in Africa for three months! I've been dreaming about this exact meal!"
Landon walked around, scooped her out of the backseat, and carried her with effortless, undeniable strength. His voice carried its usual cool edge: "Isn't African lion meat more expensive than roast duck?"
"I got scammed by the locals that time!" Lydia protested. "They told me it was wild boar! Besides, The Federation's roast duck has that perfectly flaky, crispy skin. You can't compare it to that tough, dry meat!"
Carrying Lydia with steady strides, Landon delivered a deadpan, devastating blow: "Then how did you manage to gain ten pounds a month? If you get any heavier, I'm going to have to hire a team of bodybuilders to haul you around."
"Bring 'em on!"
Walking behind them, Sloane couldn't help but laugh at the siblings' banter.
One was relentlessly stoic, the other endlessly bubbly, but put them together, and they bickered non-stop.
It was their weird way of showing affection.
The private dining room was reserved in advance, featuring beautifully polished mahogany tables.
The second Lydia was seated, she aggressively waved down a waiter. "One whole roast duck, an herb-roasted chicken, and bring us one of every signature farm-to-table dish on the menu!"
The waiter blinked, slightly overwhelmed. "Are you sure three people can finish all that?"
"Whatever we don't finish, we'll take to go!" Landon added smoothly. "Put the order in exactly as she said, and add a bowl of fish maw soup."
While they waited for the food, Lydia leaned across the table. "Sloane, you texted me before about the Civil Affairs Bureau's marriage draw, right?"
Sloane nodded. "I already did it."
"What?"
Lydia's eyes went wide. "You already went through with it?"
Sloane nodded again. "It's been almost two weeks."
The delicate bone-china teacup Landon was holding clattered against the saucer with a sharp *clink*. He froze, turning slowly toward Sloane. "You got married?"
