He frowned, his tone laced with bitterness. "You knew I posted updates every day, yet you never liked a single one of them!"
Sloane laughed. "Since when do you care about social media likes? You know I was keeping up with you."
Lydia was equally baffled by her brother's intense reaction. "Landon, Sloane's been independent her whole life. Everything she does has a calculated reason. You've always backed her up before."
"This is marriage! It's for the rest of her life!"
Lydia shrugged. "I think it's badass. Right, Sloane?"
Pivoting back to the gossip, Lydia asked, "So, aside from being a 'good guy,' what's my new brother-in-law like? How tall is he? Is he cute? What does he do for a living?"
Thinking of Logan, a soft smile naturally touched Sloane's lips. "He's an auto mechanic."
"Wait, what? You're a literal brain surgeon with a PhD, and you're paired with a mechanic?"
"But he's huge. Six-foot-two, completely ripped. Honestly, he's better looking than any of the fitness influencers you drool over on TikTok." Sloane knew exactly what type of guys Lydia was into.
"No way. Seriously? Are you just wearing rose-colored glasses because you're married?"
"Absolutely not."
Lydia clasped her hands together excitedly. "Wow, I have to meet him! Can you have guests over at the Valentine Towers apartments?"
"Of course. It's just like a regular apartment."
The two girls chatted animatedly.
Landon's face, however, was a stormy mask of pure devastation.
He finally managed to force a question through his teeth: "How far have things progressed between you two?"
Sloane paused, a little flushed. "We're married. How far do you think?"
"Is this just for the government fertility mandate, or are you actually planning to spend your life with him?" Landon's chest heaved with every breath.
"I haven't decided yet."
