Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 57

"Okay, I promise, we will save the hostage," Sloane murmured softly, gently rubbing his back.

She spoke as though comforting a frightened child.

In Logan's mind, a horrifying, infinitely repeating nightmare was playing on a loop.

Armed men forcing a man to his knees.

But the man refused to kneel.

And then, they slit his throat.

Blood sprayed everywhere.

He was drowning in the hallucination, unable to break the surface.

Until a gentle, grounding voice pierced through the chaos: "We will save the hostage."

It was Sloane.

Her voice acted like a beacon of light, pulling him out of the suffocating darkness of his trauma.

Logan finally caught his breath.

When he lifted his head, his eyes were sharp and resolute.

Sloane couldn't fully decipher what he was going through.

Instead, he gave her a reassuring nod and immediately pivoted to hunting for clues.

Seeing him push through it caused an unexpected twinge of pain in Sloane's chest.

She quickly stepped up to assist him.

For every clue they uncovered, they were allowed to "shoot" one of the digital criminals on the screens.

With every clue he deciphered, Logan's eyes darkened with raw, lethal intensity.

He watched the digital criminals fall one by one, yet not a single shred of relief washed over his face. It was as if he were still bracing for a real-world tactical extraction.

"Logan."

Sloane gently tapped his arm. "The targets have all been neutralized, and the hostage is secure. Let's go see if there's a final clue on the hostage."

The 'hostage' was just a plastic mannequin.

But Logan showed zero interest in approaching it. His voice was completely flat as he replied, "You go ahead."

"Okay." Sloane didn't press him.

They finally beat the game.
