Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 56

But then she remembered how she had clung to Logan like a lifeline in the previous room, and a faint blush crept onto her cheeks.

Logan was quietly counting the stone tiles.

After a moment, he said confidently, "Nine rows, nine columns. Eighty-one squares in total. Every single tile has a faint numbering carved into it. We just need to follow the mathematical sequence."

Sloane frowned. "But which sequence? Don't tell me it's ancient runes and astrology? I don't know the first thing about that."

"I've got it!" Logan suddenly chuckled.

"You know the path?"

"I used to play a lot of Minesweeper. The logic here is basically identical."

"Minesweeper?"

Right. He was a military buff.

Logan gestured behind him. "Step exactly where I step."

"Okay."

Sloane followed closely behind Logan. Staring at his broad shoulders, she suddenly felt an undeniable sense of security radiating from him.

Up ahead, Serena and Lily were failing miserably.

First, they triggered a volley of golf balls that pelted them from the walls, followed immediately by a suffocating blast from a stink bomb.

Serena was coughing so hard her eyes watered.

Lily finally complained, "Serena, are you sure you know where you're going?"

Serena had only memorized the first half of the sequence; the rest was completely blank in her mind.

Even though she had the clue scroll in her pocket, the cryptic ancient runes and astrology signs meant absolutely nothing to her.

They took another wrong step, and this time, heavily padded Whack-a-Mole hammers swung down from the ceiling.

Getting battered from all sides, the two girls couldn't take it anymore. Shielding their heads with their arms, they abandoned the puzzle entirely and blindly sprinted through the remaining traps to the finish line.

When they finally stumbled to safety, they were a complete mess.

Serena's hair looked like a rat's nest, and she had taken several heavy blows to the face, leaving bruised welts.

Lily didn't look much better.

When they turned around to check on Logan and Sloane, they nearly had an aneurysm out of pure rage.

Logan and Sloane were holding hands. Logan would take a step, and Sloane would elegantly step right behind him.
