Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 68

He hastily shoved the phone toward Sloane. "Here, talk to him."

Sloane thought he must have been using a burner phone, but when she glanced at the screen, it was his usual number.

She pressed the phone to her ear, suddenly entirely at a loss for words.

Logan broke the heavy silence. "Sloane."

"Yeah," she replied softly.

"I just landed."

"Okay."

Hearing the sheer exhaustion in his voice drained all the fight out of her. She didn't want to interrogate him right now.

Whatever he was dealing with, it clearly wasn't something he could easily explain.

If he wanted to tell her, he would do it on his own terms.

"I'll be home in thirty minutes. Are you at Zane's shop?"

"Yes."

"Head back to the apartment. We'll talk there."

"Alright."

Sloane ended the call and handed the phone back.

Still terrified she was going to divorce his friend, Zane pleaded, "You have to trust him. Logan is an honorable, loyal guy. If he's keeping secrets from you, it's only because he... he has absolutely no choice."

*A highly classified military op left him with zero choices!*

The phrase "no choice" sparked a wild theory in Sloane's mind.

"Is he in massive debt? Was he hiding from loan sharks?"

"Uh... you should really just ask him," Zane groaned, aggressively mopping his sweaty forehead.

Realizing she wasn't going to get a straight answer, Sloane let it drop.

"Thanks, Zane. See you later."

Sloane took a cab straight back to Valentine Towers.

Just as she was about to scan into the lobby, a familiar voice called out. "Sloane."
