Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 91

"Are you friend-zoning me right now? That's the last thing a man wants to hear," Logan said with a wry smile.

Sloane looked at him.

He was leaning against the headboard, looking both regal and slightly lethargic; perhaps because it was morning, his gaze was still a bit hazy.

He wore a simple tank top that exposed his consistently lean, muscular shoulders.

Coupled with his gentlemanly restraint last night, a sudden impulse flared in Sloane's chest.

She wanted to tackle him to the bed.

But then, the alarm on her smartwatch buzzed.

It was synced to her phone, set for work.

Sloane said, "Even if I shouldn't friend-zone you, you really are a good guy to me."

He delivered her meals.

He protected her when others bullied her.

He kept his hands to himself when she crawled into his bed in the middle of the night.

Logan chuckled nonchalantly. "A good guy it is, then."

Sloane got out of bed.

She hadn't worn slippers over last night, so she had to walk out barefoot.

At the door, she turned back to ask, "I still want to know... what exactly were those first two missions you went on?"

Logan remained leaning against the headboard. "I can't give you the specifics," he said flatly.

Sloane understood.

It was likely illegal, which was why he couldn't say.

"Was it dangerous?" she asked.

Logan replied, "There's always a chance of not coming back, but I try my best to."

Sloane nodded.

She thought of a classic movie from decades ago called Wild at Heart, where the male lead was in a gang. Despite his passionate, soul-stirring romance with the female lead, it ultimately ended in tragedy.

Just like the commander he played, his only way out was death.
