Naomi fell silent.
She didn't have any other work. These two pairs of cufflinks were her first attempt at design sketches.
The director, however, assumed she was concerned about the price and immediately offered a very high figure.
“If that’s not to your satisfaction, Ms. Gonzalez, we could discuss signing you directly. As a designer for our company, we would not only provide you with professional training abroad but also pair you with our top mentors. Your potential for growth would be limitless.”
Naomi listened in a daze.
Patricia looked like she was about to scream.
She knew Naomi was talented, but she had never imagined she was this talented.
“Naomi, what do you think?”
Being a designer was a great career, and Naomi was only a sophomore! If she was already this good as a newcomer, what would she be capable of after formal training?
Naomi was a rising star in the design world!
Naomi shook her head at Patricia. “I’m sorry, but my career path lies elsewhere. However, designing these cufflinks has certainly opened up a new well of inspiration for me. I have a lot of ideas I’d like to sketch out. How about this: in the future, I’ll show my designs to you first. If you’re interested in buying them, I’ll sell them to you. How does that sound?”
The design director readily agreed.
In fact, he couldn’t have asked for a better outcome.
As designers, they all knew that inspiration wasn't a limitless resource. Often, the most brilliant ideas only came under the pressure of a deadline.
Someone like Naomi, who had such innate talent without any formal training, was an absolute treasure.
Forcing her into a professional role might even stifle her natural creativity.
Before, Naomi had always been chasing after Zebulon, with no time for herself, let alone for exploring her own interests.
Patricia had always seen a creative spark in Naomi and believed she should be focusing on herself, but back then, Naomi was so blinded by love that she wouldn't listen to anyone.
Patricia had felt helpless, able only to try and minimize the hurt Naomi would inevitably face.
Thankfully, Naomi had finally come to her senses, and now, one good thing after another was happening to her. Patricia was overjoyed.
Naomi, too, felt that her life was much better now.
And seeing a steady stream of money flowing into her own account gave her a newfound sense of confidence.
She had always believed she was a product of her parents' upbringing and that their wishes should come first. But now, she saw that she was capable and hardworking. She could support herself. Perhaps it was time to have a serious conversation with her parents about fighting for her own future.
