While Naomi's dorm was filled with laughter, Zebulon's gathering was far more somber. They had chosen a venue and hired people to decorate, but Zebulon wore a thunderous expression, clearly unhappy.

“What’s with Zebulon?”

Carter glanced at Jonathan, who had sidled up to him, and said with a sigh, “What else could it be? He’s upset that Naomi isn’t here.”

Jonathan was even more confused. “What does this have to do with Naomi? I thought Zebulon couldn’t stand her.”

“Shouldn’t he be happier that she’s not around?”

“Funny, right? Does he look happy to you?”

Carter explained, “He’s all talk. He says he can’t stand Naomi, but in reality, he wishes she was still fawning over him like before. Think about it. Sure, plenty of people pursue us because of who we are, but has anyone ever chased someone with as little dignity as Naomi did? And let’s be honest, Naomi took care of every little thing for Zebulon.”

“Even a top-tier personal assistant couldn’t have done more. It’s easy to get used to luxury but hard to give it up. After being pampered like that for so long, do you really think he can handle her suddenly being gone?”

Jonathan shook his head.

He could understand the logic, but he was still perplexed.

“If Zebulon regrets it, then why doesn’t he just go and win her back? Is his pride really worth more than his happiness? Who is he trying to spite, anyway?”

Carter looked helpless. “You still don’t get Zebulon. When have you ever seen him back down?”

Herbert glanced at Zebulon and said quietly, “His birthday is the same day as yours, Zebulon.”

The expressions on everyone’s faces froze.

“Hold on, what is the Spencer family trying to pull?”

The Spencer family was in a different league from families like the Hugheses. While everyone looked down on Lennon, no one dared to disrespect the Spencers.

Carter’s family was connected to the Spencers by marriage, so he should have known about something like this.
