Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 173

Naomi thought Zebulon had to be insane.

What did his presence, or lack thereof, have to do with her happiness?

Were they a single entity, sharing every emotion?

Naomi's face remained calm. It seemed the more time she spent with Lennon, the less anger and helplessness she felt when facing Zebulon.

Before, her emotions would have been turbulent. Now, there was nothing.

"Weren't you happy?"

Naomi thought of the photos Tiffany had posted on Facebook and asked with genuine curiosity, "You went with Tiffany on her sketching trip, didn't you? You two looked like you were having a great time."

A flicker of joy ignited in Zebulon's heart.

He couldn't believe Tiffany's plan had actually worked. Naomi had seen the pictures of them together and was clearly angry.

But he quickly realized Naomi was too calm.

So calm it was as if she were talking about someone else's business.

Annoyed, Zebulon's tone soured. "What are you so happy about? I was having fun with someone else, and you're happy? Naomi, do you have any sense of responsibility as my fiancée?"

"Or are you really so generous that you wouldn't care if I had a few women on the side?"

A sharp pain, unavoidable, pricked Naomi's heart.

She knew that her ties to Zebulon couldn't be severed just yet. She had thought that if she acted with more grace and stopped clinging to him like before, he might show her some respect and be less cruel.

But she was wrong. Zebulon had no compassion for her at all.

"First of all, we're not engaged yet. It's still up in the air whether that will even happen."

"Second, it's not like I forced you to go sketching with her. Did you expect me to tie you up and drag you back?"

"And finally, you didn't even tell me you were going. If I hadn't seen it on Tiffany's Facebook, I'd still be in the dark."

Didn't Tiffany say this would shock Naomi into realizing how important he was to her?

Why was the effect the complete opposite?

"If there's nothing else, I'm heading back."

Naomi had no time to waste on Zebulon.

In fact, when she saw Tiffany's photos, along with the heartache, she had felt a sense of relief.

Realizing Zebulon's relentless pestering was just a case of sour grapes, she could only laugh it off.

She should have known all along. If Zebulon had ever liked her, he wouldn't have made her suffer so much.

She was the one who had been foolish, stubbornly trying to tie him down with an engagement.

Now that neither of them had feelings for the other, the matter of the engagement wasn't entirely unsolvable.
