Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 174

The thought brought Naomi a sense of relief.

After all, two people working on a problem was much better than one person struggling alone.

"Naomi."

"Nothing really happened between Tiffany and me. I was just there for her sketching trip, and then she got bit by a snake saving me."

"That's why I stayed to take care of her."

Naomi frowned, not understanding why Zebulon was telling her this now.

Zebulon watched her expression closely as he spoke.

When he didn't see the pleased surprise he was expecting, a knot of panic tightened in his gut.

What was going on?

Why wasn't Naomi reacting the way she was supposed to?

A terrifying realization hit him. The relationship between them might have reached a point he had never considered, a point he was afraid to even think about.

Could she really not like him anymore?

Zebulon had never entertained the question before, because he had been certain that no matter what, Naomi would never leave him, could never truly stop liking him.

But now, he wasn't so sure.

Her behavior was just too unexpected.

Once the thought took root in his mind, it began to spin and fester like a poison, spreading through him. A sharp pain seized his chest. He couldn't accept it.

No, it couldn't be true!

Zebulon's gaze grew colder. Naomi loved him so much. How could she just stop?

"I know you're still mad at me for what happened before. Fine, I'll make it up to you, okay?"

Movies have a limited run. She remembered telling him at the end of last year that it would be released soon after the new year.

But at that time, Zebulon was all wrapped up with Tiffany and hadn't contacted her once...

Too little, too late. Looking at Zebulon now, Naomi felt a strange urge to laugh.

"Zebulon, just take me home."

"I don't want to eat, and I don't want to see a movie."

"Especially not with you."

Her words must have struck a nerve, because he suddenly exploded. "You're lying!"

"You love doing those things!"

Afraid he would lose his temper and do something reckless on the road, Naomi softened her voice to soothe him. "I do, but—"
