Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 217

Naomi shoved Zebulon's hand away.

"Don't touch me."

Zebulon's heart sank. Never before had he felt the distance between them so acutely. It was as if a chasm was opening up, pulling them further and further apart.

A voice in his head screamed that Naomi was really done with him.

She was truly never going to speak to him again.

"Naomi..." Zebulon's voice was practically a plea. "Let me explain. About Tiffany—"

"That's enough, Zebulon!" Carter cut in, exasperated. He used to think Zebulon was savvy, but now he seemed to be regressing. He knew Naomi didn't want to hear about Tiffany, so why did he keep bringing her up like an idiot?

Zebulon fell silent under Carter's glare. He hesitated, then changed his words. "I won't do it again. Let's go back to how things were. I promise I'll treat you right this time, okay?"

Carter glanced at Naomi.

This was a rare moment of humility for Zebulon. He was the proud Hughes heir, and he had already humbled himself for Naomi several times. Carter felt that while Naomi had indeed been wronged, Zebulon was offering a way out. She should take it.

To keep pushing would be unreasonable.

Naomi took in the silent exchange between them.

She found it laughable.

They were all in this together, and none of them understood why she was so furious.

Naomi had lost all interest in continuing the conversation.

"There's no need."
