“Oh,” Naomi said. “It must be Patricia. She never saves numbers, so she doesn’t know mine.”
Naomi took the phone, intending to give Patricia a video call, but when she unlocked it and saw it was already three in the afternoon, her eyes widened.
“It’s three o’clock?”
Did that mean she had skipped her classes?
Seeing her worried expression, Lennon said, “I called your academic advisor and requested a leave of absence for you.”
Naomi looked at him in disbelief.
She wanted to ask how he knew all that, how he could be so thoughtful, but she bit her tongue. He had helped her; what was the point of interrogating him?
It would only annoy him.
“Thank you so much…”
Failing a class because of this would have been awful.
“Don’t worry about it.”
Lennon glanced at the time. “I have something to take care of this afternoon. I’ve arranged for a caregiver to stay with you, so just call her if you need anything.”
As he was about to leave, Naomi quickly stopped him. “Um…”
Lennon looked down at her.
Naomi hadn’t realized just how tall he was. With him standing and her lying down, his presence felt surprisingly intimidating.
“About the… the medical bills and the caregiver fee, can I transfer the money to you?”
Lennon narrowed his eyes, then took out his phone.
“You can send it to me.”
Naomi had been about to suggest a direct bank transfer, but she felt that after all his help, just sending money so coldly would be awkward.
Naomi shook her head so vigorously it was practically a blur.
“Really, we’re not…”
Her and Lennon? Impossible.
Leaving aside his ice-king personality that seemed destined to keep him single, there was the matter of their families. If her parents found out she was involved with Lennon, they would throw a fit.
“What a shame! You two are such a perfect match. So handsome and so beautiful. Can you imagine how adorable your children would be?”
Naomi’s face turned bright red.
What was with this caregiver? She’d already said they weren’t a couple, and now she was talking about babies…
“We’re really not…”
The caregiver sighed with disappointment. “Alright, alright, you’re not. Anyway, dear, are you hungry? Mr. Spencer had someone prepare a nourishing broth. Would you like some?”
