At his words, she paused for a second before a small smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. She leaned over and quickly pressed her lips to his cheek. “No wonder you’re the one who gets to live in my heart.”

Elias felt his pulse skip without permission. He wanted to pull her into something deeper, but she cupped his face gently and murmured, “Eyes on the road.”

She eased back into her seat and clicked her seatbelt into place.

Elias ran his tongue lightly over the corner of his own lips, a slow, almost wicked grin surfacing, showing just a flash of teeth. His long, elegant fingers reached for his own belt, but his gaze stayed fixed on her- like something impossibly soft had just brushed across his chest.

He started the engine and only then forced himself to look away.

As their car slipped out of view, a man in a cap standing in the mouth of the alley let out a quiet, cold laugh, watching the empty street with an unreadable stare.

“When are you free? My sister wants to meet you,” Elias asked quietly as he placed food on her plate, his gaze soft and lingering.

“Meeting the family?”

“Not exactly. She and Nicole were close. She’s never really stopped thinking about her all these years.”

Stella gave a slight nod. “Here–give these concert tickets to your sister for me.”

“Sure.”

She paused, then smiled. “How about after the concert? See if that works for her?”

“Just say when. I’ll let her know.”

“Okay.”

flickered thoughtfully. “Elias, you’ve met my mom before. What did you used to call her?”

At that, his gaze shifted almost imperceptibly. He rubbed his brow absently and gave a small smile. “Nicole.”

She looked at him with a teasing glint in her eye, took a sip of her coffee, then leaned forward, fixing him with that warm, burning stare.

He pinched her nose gently, his smile soft. “You’re impossible.”

They looked at each other and laughed, the air between them practically shimmering.

Sienna paused mid–step, her gaze full of something sharp and bitter.

She’d known Elias since they were kids. He’d always been untouchable–cold, distant, a face carved from stone that didn’t know how to smile. But here he was now, looking at Stella like she was the sun.

“Well, isn’t this a coincidence, Stella. Dinner here too? Elias must’ve brought you. The food really is. excellent,” Sienna said with a practiced, easy smile, as if they were old friends.

Amber frowned behind her. What did this woman have that made Elias treat her like she was made of gold?

Stella lifted her gaze coolly, taking in the two women standing nearby.

“Running into someone you don’t like and pretending you’re close–that’s not awkward?”

Sienna, who had been about to take a seat, found herself frozen mid–motion, unsure whether to sit or

stand.

“Stella…”

“I don’t know you. If your eyesight’s that bad, maybe try a doctor.”

Sienna’s eyes went glassy. She turned her pitiful gaze on Elias. “Elias, I didn’t mean anything by it. I just wanted to be friendly.”

“Who are you?”

She blinked, stunned.

“I… I’m Sienna.”

“Never heard of you. Leave.”

He hadn’t glanced at her once the entire time.

“Sienna, let’s just go.”

Amber tugged at her arm.

She didn’t want to make a scene in public–not with these two. Stella would actually throw a punch, and Elias would absolutely back her up.

Sienna was reluctant, but under the weight of so many eyes, she forced herself to compose her expression and took a seat at a table across from theirs, smile still fixed in place.

Soon, their table filled up.

“Sienna, I’d kill for an autograph from Lucas–you know, the world–renowned composer. Could you help?”

“I want Queen’s autograph–that Masked Violin Virtuoso, Queen. She’s incredible, my absolute idol. And… and a photo? I’d lose my mind.”

“Same–Queen’s autograph. She’s unreal. On stage, she’s pure royalty.”

Sienna was distracted, still smarting from Elias‘ earlier dismissal.
