Chapter 180 I Do, Elias Cross
Jasper felt no temptation toward those priceless gifts.
“Jasper,” Aaron said, growing a little anxious. Is he refusing?
Finishe
“Mr. Moore, Stella’s wish is all that matters, Elias said. “But before I propose, I wanted to show you my sincerity.”
“You’re proposing today?” Jasper asked.
Elias nodded. “I want Stella to say yes surrounded by her family’s blessings.”
“You make it sound like she’s sure to agree,” Leo teased. It was the first time he’d ever talked back to Elias after knowing him for so many years.
“If she doesn’t, it means I’m not good enough. I’ll keep trying until I am,” Elias replied calmly. His patienc surprised Leo, who didn’t say anything more.
“Like Jasper, I don’t care about these material things. I only want Stella to live a safe, happy life,” Vincent said, glancing at Jasper with a twinge of pain in his heart.
My Nicole should have had this kind of happiness too–fate could be so cruel.
“Grandpa, Dad,” Stella called, walking over. She’d stayed up late the night before and had just woken up. Seeing everyone already up, she smiled awkwardly.
“Good morning, Stella. Come eat breakfast first,” Jasper said in his warm, gentle voice.
“I’m going scuba diving later. Anyone want to come?” Stella asked.
“Stella, I’ll go with you,” Elias said at once.
Everyone looked at Elias, their eyes seeming to say, “We’re all on board for you.”
Simon felt a pang of sadness in his chest, but he couldn’t help but admit defeat. Who would have thought the great Mr. Vance would end up as a wingman for his rival–witnessing him propose to the girl he liked?
“Stella, let me do your makeup,” Iris said, opening her makeup case.
Stella froze for a second, confused. “I’m going diving. Why wear makeup?”
“To look pretty, of course,” Iris said, pulling out her tools. “Don’t worry, it’s waterproof.”
Stella smiled and agreed. Elias is going with me–looking nice won’t hurt.
Iris applied a light makeup look and tied Stella’s hair up into a bun. “All done.”
Stella looked at herself in the mirror and nodded in satisfaction.
“Your figure is to die for,” Iris gushed. “Curvy in all the right places, and perfect proportions.”

“You really aren’t coming?” Stella asked.
Finished
Iris shook her head, grinning mischievously. “If I go, it’ll be hard for you two to sneak in some alone time.”
Stella rolled her eyes playfully and waved. “See you later.”
Elias‘ eyes lit up when he saw her, a small smile tugging at his lips. “Stella,” he said, holding out his hand. She took it instinctively, their fingers lacing together as they walked to the nearby diving spot.
They swam together underwater, gliding through colorful coral reefs and schools of fish. When they emerged, Stella removed her gear. The sun shone on her fair skin, and the water droplets on her face sparkled like gems. Her smile took his breath away.
Elias put his arm around her slender waist, gently wiping the water from her cheeks. They climbed onto a small moon–shaped boat he’d prepared, filled with fresh flowers.
‘Stella, I found this starfish underwater. It’s for you,” he said, holding out a starfish with a diamond ring attached to one of its arms. The ring sparkled brightly in the sun.
Stella’s heart raced, her mouth slightly agape. Before she could speak, Elias kissed her. The salty taste of seawater faded away as the kiss deepened. When they pulled apart, her eyes were misty with affection.
Do you remember our promise?” Elias asked.
Which one?” Stella’s heart thumped. She already knew the answer, but she wanted to hear him say it.
down Stella Shaw, I want to be yours forever,” he said, looking at her with all the love in his heart. He got ɔn one knee. “I’ve asked Mr. Shaw and Mr. Moore for their blessing. I, Elias Cross, want to marry you. The Cross family has prepared three sets of engagement gifts. Now I just need your yes.” He paused, his voice soft but firm. “Will you marry me?”
They agreed?” Stella asked.
They respect your decision. If you say no, no matter what I offer them, they won’t go against your wishes. Stella, your family loves you. And so do I.”
