Chapter 287 Little Avenger
Sunny Side Preschool.
Liam Cross narrowed his eyes and stared coldly at the trending posts.
That bastard Elias is hurting Mom.
I have to teach him a lesson.
“Liam!” Chloe Cross sobbed violently, her eyes red and swollen, and threw herself into his arms.
Liam’s cold expression softened at once.
“They say Daddy doesn’t want Mommy… doesn’t want us anymore.”
The three–year–old stammered through her tears, looking miserable.
“Liam, I don’t want a stepmother. She’ll give me poison apples!”
“Don’t cry, Chloe. I’m here. She won’t dare hurt you.”
Liam crouched down, wiped her tears gently, and lifted her onto a bench.
“Chloe, who’s picking on you? Tell me, I’ll beat them up!”
Jason Shaw, Frederick’s son, rushed in, chest puffed with anger when he saw her crying.
Miles Shaw, Kenneth’s son, pulled a lollipop from his pocket, peeled it Chloe’s mouth.
open, and put
it in
That finally stopped her tears.
Liam looked calm, his gaze drifting outside.
“Boss, is it true? Did Uncle Elias really cheat on Aunt Stella?” Jason asked in disbelief, staring at them sympathetically.
“My mom’s always on trending,” Miles said seriously. “I think the comments are real.”
The three five–year–old boys whispered among themselves.
“Watch Chloe for me.”
“Boss, where are you going?”

“Cutting class. I’m gonna defend Mom”
Liam slung his small backpack over his shoulder and left.
“Boss, be careful climbing the fence!”
Jason tried to follow, but Miles held him back.
“If you leave, I’m screwed. The teacher will ask questions. We have to lie.”
Miles added, “Mom says liars get struck by lightning. If only I get hit, I might die. If we both do, we’ll survive.”
“Where did Liam go?”
As soon as she finished the lollipop, Chloe started looking for Liam.
Miles struggled to hold her, then set her down.
“Chloe, stay with me, okay?”
He pulled out a chocolate, peeled it, and gave it to her.
With food in her mouth, she stopped asking for her brother.
“The teacher’s coming!” Jason tensed and bowed his head, trying to hide.
“Aren’t we going to take Chloe back, Jason?”
“Be good, Chloe. Put on Liam’s hat, and you’re the boss.”
Chloe nodded tearfully and obeyed.
Meanwhile, Liam turned on a laptop, his tiny fingers typing fast on the keyboard.
At Cross Group, Gideon hurried in without knocking.
“Mr. Cross, we have an emergency!”
Elias closed his file and frowned. “What is it?”
“Two crises. One for the company, one for Mrs. Cross. Which first?”
“Nonsense. What about
my
wife?”

Elias stood up anxiously, grabbing his jacket to leave.
“You’re all over trending. People say you cheated and left her.”
Elias took the tablet and was completely speechless.
“Sue them. Sue every single one.”
He stormed toward the door, and Gideon rushed after him.
“Dig up everything on that blackmailing woman. Ruin every media outlet spreading lies.
Gideon shuddered at Elias‘ rage.
“Mr. Cross, you can’t leave!”
“I’m going home to make it
up to
my wife.”
Nothing mattered more than her.
No wonder Stella hadn’t replied. He thought she was angry.
If Stella had known, she would have laughed it off–she was in the lab and never checked her phone.
“Our firewall has been breached. The tech team can’t fix it. The loss will be huge.”
Elias froze mid–step.
He called Stella while walking to the tech department.
After a long ring, Stella answered, rubbing her sore neck.
“Elias? Miss me?”
Elias‘ heart finally relaxed.
“Honey, the rumors are fake. Some girl is using me for clout. I’ll fix it.”
Stella was confused. “What rumors?”
“Cross Group is ‘under cyberattack. I have to handle this. I’ll explain everything when I get home.”
“Okay, focus on work first.”
“I love you, honey.”
