Chapter 66 Expulsion and Public Shame
That bitter taste of regret stayed with Arthur long after he left the restaurant.
Silas couldn’t accept any of it.
She was supposed to have been his fiancée. And he’d let her go.
Now he was stuck marrying someone whose reputation was in shreds.

Later that evening, Arthur sat in his study, going over the files his assistant had managed to obtain.
A photograph. A profile shot of Elias, acquired at significant cost from a private source.
Just that one angle was enough. Arthur’s face drained of color.
So that was why Cross Group had been targeting them.
Elias. The man whose displeasure could shake this entire city to its core.
He was Stella’s backing.
Arthur grabbed his chest. His eyes went wide with fear.
The Thorne family was finished.
“Thud.”
He collapsed.
“Grandfather!”
Silas had walked in at exactly the wrong moment. He rushed to his grandfather’s side, then scrambled to call an ambulance.

The next morning.
Determined to see Silas, Jasmine checked herself out of the hospital against medical advice.
She’d barely stepped onto the campus when she was summoned to the dean’s office.
To her surprise, Silas was already there.
“Since you’re both here, take a look. Any objections?”
Julian had run out of patience with these two a long time ago.
“Mr. Voss, I don’t accept this.”
Silas fought to keep his voice steady, but the anger bled through.

He’d already lost so much. Now they were expelling him?
“This isn’t fair. You’re only doing this because of Stella.”
Jasmine’s face went white.
“Not fair?”
Julian let out a dry laugh and tossed their academic records onto the desk.
“Take a look at how many classes you’ve failed. This is a university. It’s for learning, not for spreading lies and destroying other people’s reputations.
“Silas. Jasmine. We gave you chances. Multiple chances. And every time, you doubled down.
“Repeated slander. Paying for online harassment. Insulting faculty. Neglecting your studies. Failing to meet basic conduct standards. Organizing cliques to attack other students. Your behavior has been extreme, and it’s done serious damage to this institution’s reputation.”
They had nothing to say.
Julian had proof. Solid proof. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have backed the law students in their lawsuits.
“Handle the paperwork.”
Julian was done.
He needed to go home and talk to his wife about making a significant donation to the Shaw Foundation. Whatever it took to keep Stella at this university.
Minutes later, Silas and Jasmine handed over their student IDs and walked off campus for the last time.
“Silas. Stella went too far.”
“Did she? Or did you?”
Jasmine’s face crumpled. “You’re blaming me?”
“Jasmine. You’re a compulsive liar. If you hadn’t spent years calling her a convent girl, useless, ugly, illiterate–I never would have been ashamed of my own fiancée.”
Jasmine stumbled, her face paling further.
“You climbed into my bed to break us apart. And now I finally see–the shameless one here was you all along.
“Silas. Don’t pretend you’re innocent. You’re only regretting this because her status changed. If you want her back so badly, go chase her.
“Oh wait. You can’t. Why would she want you? What do you even have to offer? Next to her? You’re nothing.”

“Slap.”
Jasmine’s hand flew to her cheek. It stung. Her skin burned red. “You hit me.”
“If I’m nothing, why were you so desperate to keep me?”
“Don’t think for a second I’m calling off this engagement.”
They went at each other right there on the street. A crowd gathered.
“Isn’t that the trafficker’s daughter?”
“She actually dares to show her face? After everything her family did?”

“Her father trafficked women. Stole from graves. She broke up a relationship and spent months spreading lies about an innocent person. And she’s out here like nothing happened?”
“Her mother tried to sell Stella. What kind of family even does that?”
“Silas–treating your precious ‘other woman‘ like this? Regretting things now?”
“You had someone like Stella and you threw her away. Too late now. What a mess.”
Under the weight of public scorn, Silas and Jasmine lost whatever dignity they had left.
Their public fight–caught on phones, shared everywhere–only made things worse. The news of their expulsion was met with near–universal approval.
Stella watched it all from a distance. A faint smile crossed her lips.
Derek’s trial was coming up.
It was time to settle things with the Harlow family once and for all.
