“Then put me to work.”
Stella just stared at him.
If it hadn’t been for Derek’s hearing today, he’d have shown up holding a bouquet of white tulips.
“Helping you never feels like work, so stop worrying about me overdoing it.”
Hearing that, Stella couldn’t help the smile that tugged at her lips.
“I wanted to see Jasper, but he’s been turning everyone away lately.”
Elias‘ brow furrowed slightly. “Lately?”

Chapter 84 The Shaw Brothers‘ Fear
“Grandfather.”

Frederick’s voice was thick with worry as he took in his grandfather’s ashen face. His own heart was racing.
“Frederick, find me a picture of Luna. I need to see what she looks like.”
“Grandfather, you’re reading too much into this.”
Frederick wasn’t refusing–he was terrified.
Especially after locking eyes with Stella carlier. They were both cold, guarded people, but in that moment, he’d actually felt something for her. It was like a fist squeezing his heart, making it hard to draw breath.
Her eyes held something he couldn’t quite name, something he was almost afraid to examine too closely.
Frederick Shaw, who usually didn’t flinch at anything, found himself genuinely scared.
“Frederick, are you disobeying me too?”
Kenneth heard their grandfather’s raised voice from down the hall and hurried in without thinking.
“Grandfather? Frederick? What’s going on?”
Vincent’s face lit up with something like hope. He reached out. “Kenneth, you find me a picture of Luna. I need to see her face.”
“Who’s Luna?”
Kenneth was completely lost, gently rubbing his grandfather’s back to calm him down.
“Dr. Shaw’s mother.”
That only confused Kenneth more.
Frederick dropped to one knee, meeting their grandfather’s eyes.
“Grandfather, she can’t be Aunt Nicole. It’s impossible.”
His voice started out steady but cracked by the end.
“You found Aunt Nicole? Where is she?”
Kenneth was the only one who looked genuinely excited, practically bouncing with joy.
“Grandfather, listen to me. People can look alike. It’s just a coincidence.”
Frederick didn’t dare upset him further.
His health had only just started improving.
“What are the odds of a coincidence like that? Dr. Shaw said she goes by her mother’s maiden name, so her mother shouldn’t be named Luna–she should be a Shaw.

“She’s twenty–one. If she were Nicole’s daughter, the timing lines up perfectly.
“And she does look a bit like Nicole. And a bit like Jasper, too.
“Plus, she’s not that trafficker’s biological daughter.
“So it’s possible.”
Kenneth’s head was spinning.
“Wait–what? Dr. Shaw is Aunt Nicole’s daughter? Did I hear that right?”
Nobody answered him. Vincent was worked up, desperate to prove something, yet terrified the truth might actually match his worst fears.
“Grandfather, rest for now. I’ll look into it.”
“No. It can’t be. That’s not my Nicole. That’s not her. God…”
Vincent couldn’t bring himself to be certain, but seeing all those victimized women had shaken him to his
core.
Had his little girl suffered like that too?
