She dipped her head and laughed. I was curious to know what was so funny. Maybe I'd laugh too.
Then she looked back up, frowning. "Hold on, you're not joking?"
"Haven't added comedian to my profession."
"Void! How're we getting married? I mean—" she laughed again. "Oh, my God. You're actually serious."
She looked back at the building, then at me. "Well, this is insane. The nerves of you to think you can just bring me here to shop for our wedding. What wedding?"
She was making it sound like a joke. Something cracked in my head. It came with an almost overwhelming urge to grab her throat, slam her against the car and make her scream.
She must see the threat in my eyes because her smile collapsed instantly and she took a hurried step back.
Her hands flew up in agitation before slamming down at her sides "Y—You don't even know if I want to get married!"
"Why wouldn't you? We're spending the rest of our lives together. Might as well stamp it official."
"Void—"
"I don't really give a shit about some priest having the right to join us because no one has a fucking say about us. But from what I've gathered, that's one of the ways you can have your last name changed to mine. Plus I like the idea of you being Mrs. I'd have less men to kill then."
She rolled her eyes in that infuriating way that always dared me to react "This is all just crazy. I don't want to get married."
"You're getting married. I wasn't opening this up for debate."
"Come on—"
"Get moving, Rali, before I drag you in myself."
I took a step towards her and she blanched.
"Wait! You didn't even propose!"
"Proposing would give you an option to say Yes or No. Don't see how that's needed."
She looked away, muttering something bitter under her breath.
"So, you're really going to force me to get married to you?" She returned her gaze to me. "I mean, I know you've been forcing me about everything, but marriage? That is extreme."
I thought she should've known by now how much I relished that exact moment when resistance turns into resignation.
It was my biggest turn on.
"Call it whatever you want. You're ending up with me; that's it."
I moved toward her again, ready to haul her into that shop. She quickly backed away.
"Fine! Wait." She folded her arms and puffed. "W—Well, this isn't how it's done. The bride's supposed to go wedding shopping with her friends, not with the groom looking over her."
Hm. I didn't know that.
"So, you want to go with Veronica?"
"And Ruby. We're supposed to be making the girly decisions together."
That made sense.
"So, are you calling them now to come over?"
She looked at me like I'd I'd just used some forbidden language.
"Come on, don't be ridiculous. Veronica's at work and Ruby won't be any less busy. I can't just pull them out simply because you want to get married out of nowhere."
That wasn't sitting well with me, but I chose not to be unreasonable today.
"So, when are you calling them?"
"I—I'll do that tomorrow."
"Tonight. If you don't get this shopping done by tomorrow, we skip the girly fantasy entirely. I don't care if I have to drag you here in a leash."
She puffed out an angry breath and looked away.
I walked back to the car, opening her own door. "Get in."
She cursed under her breath but obeyed in the end.

RALI
She shot me a warning stare. "You don't get to thank me for things like that. I should be the one thanking you for letting me do them."
I stared down at my thighs and smiled as she took off.
Vlyrissa Thorne. Who would've known that one day we'd have a relationship like this?
Well, you could say over the weeks our relationship had gotten better. I paid more visits to her, got too much gifts and money from her. Just three days ago, she gifted me a brand new house—though Void said there was no point as I'd always be living with him. Typical, delusional him.
The whole thing's been overwhelming, but I'd be flying if I said it didn't feel good to have my real mum taking care of me.
The drive was quiet until we reached the first traffic light.
"So, Void asked you to marry him?"
I gasped as I looked at her.
She kept her eyes fixed on the red light ahead. "I overheard you talking to Veronica."
Oh... Well, shit.
"So, he asked you to marry him. Can't say I'm surprised."
"He didn't ask me," I said bitterly with an eye roll. "Just simply told me to get ready for the wedding like he bought me when I was a child or something."
She laughed. "Well, if he had asked properly, I'd think he wasn't Void."
She moved at the green light.
"So, you don't want to marry him?"
"No! I don't want to get married now."
"Why?"
She flicked me a glance when I stayed quiet.
"Are you afraid that marrying him would seal your feelings for him? You're afraid that if you accept him, you're accepting the fact that you truly love him."
She paused, then added, "If he decides to move on tomorrow to someone else, how would you feel about that?"
