Chapter 4
I was shaking with rage looking at that comment. I’ve seriously met a complete psycho!
Tomorrow was the centennial celebration, and Dad was invited as a distinguished alumnus to give a speech. I’d make sure he set the record
straight in front of everyone!
Time to crush Tessa’s delusions once and for all!
I was too pissed to eat, so I went back to the dorm planning to call Dad and vent about this whole mess.
But then Dad video-called me first.
“Wren, did you get into a fight with your roommate?”
I was confused – had word of my dining hall meltdown already reached him?
“How’d you know?”
Dad looked awkward and moved his phone camera to the side.
In the video, Tessa was strutting around Dad’s office like she owned the place! Ordering employees around left and right!
Acting like a total boss lady!
“Tessa? She’s sick in the head! Dad, just ignore her!”
“She’s telling people you’re her husband! That she’s my stepmom! The whole school’s talking about it!”
“You have to publicly clear this up at tomorrow’s celebration! Otherwise how am I supposed to survive four years here?”
I was so frantic I could barely get the words out, wanting to reach through the screen and slap some sense into her!
Dad looked just as shocked, like he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
“Good God, what’s wrong with kids these days?”
“I’ll have someone escort her out, and tomorrow I’ll go to your school and straighten this whole thing out.”
After hanging up, I couldn’t sit still, plotting how I’d deal with Tessa when she got back.
Then I heard students walking past our dorm whispering:
“That’s the room
–
the daughter and stepmom living together! So creepy.”
“Damn, are all rich families this messed up?”
I immediately rushed out and grabbed them. “Who said she’s my stepmom? She’s lying!”
The students shook me off and shoved a phone screen in my face.
“Your family’s so two-faced! Your dad’s into young girls, and you won’t acknowledge her status!”
I looked at the phone – it was Tessa’s Instagram.

The latest post was her selfie at Dad’s office, plus videos of her bossing employees around.
[Checking out hubby’s empire, letting the staff get familiar with their new boss lady!]
The next post was her creepy photo of me sleeping last night.
[Daughter worked so hard today, passed out the second her head hit the pillow.]
And below that – screenshots of her chat with Dad!
[With me here, your daughter’s totally safe at school~]
She’d never deleted her posts at all – she’d just blocked me and posted even more!
I was trembling with rage, grinding my teeth.
How could someone this unhinged exist?
I couldn’t wait until tomorrow. The second she got back, I was going to tear her apart!
Even if I got expelled, I didn’t care!
But she never came back that night – probably too scared to face me.
The next day at the centennial celebration, all the city’s elite showed up, including Dad.
Dad looked incredible in his custom suit – tall, fit from years of working out. Even though he was in his forties, he could pass for thirty.
“Our seats are in the front row. I got the school to give us distinguished alumni family seating.”
I nodded and followed Dad to the front.
The next second, I nearly fainted from what I saw..
Tessa was there in full evening wear, bold as brass, sitting in the seat marked Mrs. Fraser!
