You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 967

Even as a kid, she was stunning. That kind of beauty always drew attention, but with her dad’s status, most problems at school got swept under the rug without much fuss. Parents might grumble, but in the end, no one really wanted to cross her family.

Everything stayed under control until that one time when both Patricia and Oliver were out of town on business. That day, she got into a fight at school. Things spiraled, and before she knew it, she was sitting in a police station. She figured if she called her dad, she’d end up grounded for life, so instead, she dialed Jackson.

Jackson showed up at the station in a suit, looking like he’d run the whole way there. The second he walked in, he spotted her on a bench, hair a mess, clothes a little dirty. In front of her, a middle-aged man handed her a pack of wet wipes. Hope pulled a few out and gave him a quick thank you.

“Mr. Lantz?”

“Jackson?”

It had been years since they’d seen each other. They used to be young, now they were both solidly middle-aged. The moment felt strange, almost like stepping into a memory.

“You’re back in town?”

“Yeah.”

Jackson looked curious. “What’s your job now?”

Brandon answered, “Chief of police.”

“Impressive. Looks like you’re going places.”

Brandon grinned. “What about you? Still with Patricia?”

Jackson smiled and nodded, then fished a business card out of his pocket and handed it over.

Brandon glanced at it. “So you’re a big shot now, huh?” His eyes drifted to the girl. “Is that... your daughter?”

“Patricia’s daughter.”
