Chapter 16
“Weren’t you the one who asked me to come for a drink? you’re leaving already when we just started? No way! Lester, are you really leaving?” Henry asked. The two of them left the bar one after the other.
On the way, Lester kept thinking about Henry’s words. Had he really fallen in love?
As he thought about it, he unknowingly arrived at Daphne’s door. By this time, night had already fallen. Maybe she was already asleep.
The moment he turned around to leave, a cry came from inside the room.
“What’s wrong ?” he asked.
Daphne looked bewildered.
e room. He didn’t have time to think and kicked the door open.
Did Lester really come in just like that? The door was clearly broken, and the lock was cracked.
“You__ I’m fine. I just bumped my leg on the comer of the couch. Why are you…” Daphine muttered
Only then did Luster realize how nude he had been by suddenly barging into a woman’s room.
“Sorry. I was passing by and thought I’d check on you. Then, I heard you cry out and thought you were in danger, so I rushed in. But don’t worry, I’ll have someone Bet you a new door right away.”
With that, Lester tumed and left. Daphne wanted to thank him, but he gave her no chance at all,
She didn’t think much of it. Lester was pretty nice. Sometimes, he would come by to see her, which seemed perfectly normal.
To avoid the soldiers noticing something was off, Lester practically used his psionic strength to walk. In just a few quick steps, he reached the study and shot the
door.
He leaned against it and looked up at the ceiling light. The bright glare made him narrow his eyes slightly.
He placed his hand over his heart. After realizing bow he really felt inside, he could no longer hold back his emotions.
The moment he heard her cry out in pain, he lacked the door open without thinking. The tears that had welled up from her pain were like a death knell pushing him to hurry and pull her into his arms.
“No. No way I can’t possibly like such a weak human, even if she does have strong fertility,” he uttered to himself.
Lester didn’t want to believe any of this. He sat at his desk, irritably rubbing his forehead.
It must be because he hadn’t been around a female for a long time. That had to be the reason.
He turned on his phone and agreed to the blind date his family had arranged.
That night, Daphne slept fitfully. She didn’t know why, but for the first time since coming to this unfamiliar interstellar empire, she dreamed of her family.
In the dream, she was sitting in a barbecue restaurant with them when a strange man barged in and started biting anyone be sw. Her whole family had to hide, but in the ead, they were all bitten
She especially remembered the moment when her parents shut the door to blockout the zombies so she could escape. It was burned deep into her mind.
Still, even though she escaped, what pood was it? She was the only living person left on the entire planet.
At that point, she was mentally and physically exhausted, in utter despair. She stood on a tall building and jumped.
“No… Dad, Mom, don’t leave me.‘
A teat slipped down Daphne’s cheek, barely making a sound in the stillness of the night.
If someone looked closely, they would notice the items around the incubator trembling slightly, accompanied by a falut wave of psionic energy.
One of the bigger snalur eggs was slowly cracking. But it only cracked halfway and stopped.
After that, Daphne stopped having nightmares.
When Daphne woke up the next moming, she saw the cracks in the egg. She quickly summoned the system to ask about it.
“System, didn’t you say the eggs needed about a month to hatch? It hasn’t even been ten days, and one of the eggs is already cracked. Is it broken?”
If the system had a physical form, it would definitely be rolling its eyes at her
“Duplate, these are snake eggs, not chicken eggs.”
“Don’t worry. It’s probably cracking so soon because of the egg’s psionic strength judging by its psionic level, it’s not low, You can get more points now”
Daplige didirt rally care about the points. She just didiri kuow what her children would look like when they hatched.
Are they going to look gentle and klud like me, ormate Deice and mean like that man?“
“Well, I don’t know what the two offspring look like, but I can tell you that once they hatch, they’ll deflutely be la their beast form,”
~ the system replied
“Yes, basically as stakes. After that, they’ll need to learn how to become Beastkas
Daphine was so shocked to hear this. It felt as it she had been struck by lightning,
“You… you“te saying they’ll be stukes at first ?!
Daphne almost felt like throwing the incubator away on the spot. She’d been terrified of invertebrates all her life, so finding out about this felt like her world was crashing downL
She quickly called Emma and told her in move the incubator into the living room. As long as it wasn’t in her room, that was fine.
She had assumed that once they hatched, she would have two little babies. It didn’t matter if they were actually snakes. As long as they were babies, she could pretend everything was fine.
But no one had told her that Beastkin stayed in their original forms when they were young
Still trembling, she noticed the new door and thought of Lester. Ever since Britney died, she hadn’t given him any human fond.
So, Daphie decided to make some snacks and send them to him. She had Emma gather the ingredients for her.
She spent the entire moming on it and finally finished. She packed the snacks and headed for the study.
On the way, they saw a few unfamiliar men.
Daphne asked curiously, “What are they doing? Why are they carrying such a strange tree?”
