You need to investigate her.” He was desperate to accuse Daphne and divert attention from his own theft, but his eagerness only made him seem more suspicious.

Once Hector stopped talking, the officer tumed his attention backto Daphne.

Hector froze at the mention of military personnel. He silently prayed that wasn’t the case. 

Daphne wondered–did her military ex–boyfriend count? 

Before she could respond, the officer snapped silver handcuffs onto Hector’s wrists and escorted him away. 

“Ms. Miller, there’s no one else here now. You can show us your ID, right?” He paused before adding, “Or are you a fugitive?– 

Both officer had their right hands resting under the table, ready to draw their weapons if necessary. 

Daphne had no choice but to extend her right hand, where the phone was strapped to her wrist, 

Once she tapped it with the officer’s phone, his expression darkened as he read the Information on the screen. 

“Ms. Miller, where exactly are you from? Why are you using a deceased person’s identity to register as a Hildian citizen?”
