Clover Villa and Phoenix Villa were in the same estate but quite far apart. Walking from one to the other would take at least 20 minutes.
Feeling weary, Daniel slowed his pace and began to breathe heavily. He wondered how Nadine and Brad were doing and assumed they were likely in the master bedroom on the second floor. After all, conflicts often lead to reconciliation in a marriage.
Nadine hadn't returned to the hospital or called him or Adam, which suggested that things were going well. It seemed that the situation had been resolved.
The maids tensed up as they saw Daniel enter the main house. They whispered among themselves for a while, then fell silent. Huddled together, they cast furtive glances toward the second floor.
Daniel sensed something was amiss. He stopped and addressed one of the maids with a commanding tone, "What are you all discussing?"
The maids at Hamilton Estate were well-trained not to discuss the family in private. Yet, their unusual and ambiguous behavior made Daniel even more suspicious.
One timid maid stepped forward and gestured towards the second floor. "Mr. Hamilton, there are things we can't explain. You should go upstairs and see for yourself."
Daniel frowned, considered the situation briefly, and then proceeded upstairs without further questioning.
On the second floor, the master bedroom door was ajar. Jean was sleeping soundly in Brad's embrace. A breeze had partially opened the door, offering a glimpse of their intimacy on the bed.
