On a cold winter morning, Daniel stood in the small garden which was still covered in frost. He watched as Evelyn left in a hurry, then fell into deep thought. Since she just went to play poker, why was she acting so strangely?
Could it be… Did she know in advance that someone would frame her? Or was she feeling guilty?
After hesitating for a moment, Daniel picked up his phone and called his assistant. "Investigate Evelyn's recent whereabouts for me and do it discreetly. It's best to start with those outside our usual circles.
"Investigate under your name. Don't let anyone know it's me who's looking into this. Hire an obscure private investigator. Pay him well and make sure he keeps quiet.
"I'm not afraid of her finding out. A clear conscience fears no accusations. If she's truly innocent, she can withstand the investigation, and I will apologize to her afterward.
"Remember to report any progress to me and no one else. No one in the Hamilton family can know about this but me."
After hanging up, Daniel's expression returned to normal as he walked back to Clover Villa, looking relaxed.
Daniel and Evelyn had left, and so had the maids. Inside the room, only Brad and Jean remained.
Brad was standing tall, his brows furrowed as he looked at Jean with an unfamiliar gaze. Meanwhile, Jean was tightly wrapped in a blanket, curled up in the corner of the bed, crying.
Jean started bawling as she yelled, "Brad, you've misunderstood me. I didn't mean it like that. You kept saying you were cold last night, and I was worried. That's why I held you while you slept. Don't let your father's words mislead you.
