Chapter 450 The Scheme
“But…” Janessa was still somewhat hesitant.

“Your time is up. Have you said all you wanted to say?” At that point, the prison officer, noticing that time was almost up, came over to urge them on.
“I’m sorry, could you please give us another moment? It will just take a short while,” Janessa pleaded.
Upon hearing that, the prison officer furrowed his brows in dissatisfaction. “Hurry up. I don’t have all the time in the world to waste here with you.”
“I know. It’ll be quick,” Janessa said, and then the prison officer left.
Once again, Rachel focused her gaze on Janessa. “Janessa, stop worrying so much. Everything I do is for your good. You can trust me. This medicine is absolutely safe. I would never harm you. Once you’re out, your uncle and I have everything set up. We’ll provide you with a new identity then. From that point forward, you’ll be known as your Uncle Preston’s adopted daughter. Listen to me. Living with this identity will surely keep you safe and sound.”
Rachel spoke earnestly.
Upon hearing these words, Janessa deeply realized that there was no other option available at the moment. In the end, she could only nod her head. “Okay, Aunt Rachel. I’ll do as you’ve suggested.”
“Good, good.” Rachel nodded in satisfaction.
At that moment, the prison officer pushed the door open again, his face brimming with impatience as he looked at the two of them. “It’s been almost five minutes. Are you done yet?”
“Yes, yes.” Janessa hastily stood up and then waved at Rachel. “Aunt Rachel, take care.”
“Take care.” Rachel nodded, then watched as the prison officer led Janessa away again.
With a sudden sigh of resignation, Rachel thought to herself. She didn’t want to resort to such measures, but she was left with no other choice. All she could do now was hope that Janessa would emerge unscathed.
Following that, Rachel managed to locate the prison warden.
“Are you the warden here?” Rachel asked with a soft chuckle.
“What’s wrong?” The warden glanced at her disdainfully, her contempt was clearly visible.
Shortly after, Rachel presented a small parcel and then handed it over to the warden. “Ma’am, I’m aware of the harsh conditions within the prison. This here is some bread I’ve brought for my niece. I hope you can pass it to her. I’m not expecting her to have a feast. I just hope she could have enough to eat.”
As Rachel spoke, she pulled out a few more banknotes. “Here’s a little something for you. This is just a token of my appreciation. I know your job as a prison officer isn’t easy, so treat yourself to something you need.”
“Tsk, tsk. Are you trying to bribe me?” The prison officer cast a sidelong glance at Rachel, then let out a cold chuckle. He accepted the package and the money. “Fine. I can understand the mentality of a family member. I’ll help vou deliver this food.”

The prison officer nodded, then quickly resumed her indifferent demeanor. “All right, get moving. This isn’t a place where you can linger.”
“Absolutely.” Rachel nodded repeatedly, then promptly turned around and left.
The prison officer watched her as she walked away, a sly grin suddenly creeping onto her face.
Then, the prison officer went ahead and opened the small parcel. As expected, inside was a loaf of bread that appeared incredibly appetizing.
Tsk, tsk, in all my life, I’ve never tasted anything so delicious. This Janessa is already behind bars, and she still dreams of living the good life? No chance! With that thought in mind, the prison officer contentedly pinched off a piece of bread, placing it in her mouth with great satisfaction.
“Ugh, what the hell is this supposed to be? It tastes worse than crap!” No sooner had she tasted the bread than the prison officer scrunched up her face and spat it out.
She even followed it up with a few more spits, just to rid her mouth of the awful taste completely.
Then, she couldn’t help but grumble, “Is this woman out of her mind? The food she makes is so awful, yet she has the nerve to feed it to her niece. Unbelievable.”
Following that, the prison officer proceeded into the prison, tossing the piece of bread that was slightly less than a whole to Janessa, who was inside the cell.
“Janessa, your aunt has sent you some bread. Hurry up and eat it. Make sure not to leave any crumbs. If they’re found, you’re in for it,” the prison officer said, a malicious grin creeping up at the corner of her mouth.
Following that, the prison officer didn’t leave. She just stood there, watching Janessa eat her bread.
Janessa picked up the bread, casting a wary glance at the alarm. She wondered why the prison officer was still lingering. Is she planning to watch me take the medicine?
With that thought, Janessa casually took a bite of her bread, pretending she was unfazed.
“Cough, cough!” The moment the bread entered her mouth, Janessa almost cried from its terrible taste, spitting out everything onto the ground.
“Hahaha. What an absolute fool.” The prison officer, watching the scene unfold from the doorway, couldn’t help but laugh heartily. She was filled with a sense of triumphant joy as if her cunning plan had come to fruition.
Janessa shot her a covert glare, thinking to herself. Go ahead and laugh. I hope it makes you keel over with laughter. Hmph! Once I fake my death and escape from here, you won’t be able to trouble me anymore. We’ll see if you’re still laughing then.
Following that, Janessa began stuffing her mouth with bread, heedless of anything else. Her actions were swift and fierce, much like an animal ravaging its food.
However, no sooner had the food entered Janessa’s mouth than she couldn’t help but spit it all out. Feeling aggrieved, she couldn’t help but complain inwardly. Aunt Rachel, what on earth did you make?
