Madelyn was nestled on the couch in the office. The moment she saw Sebastian, she immediately sat up. brimming with excitement.

“You’re back!”

Sebastian gave a slight nod in response. It was rare to see her this excited.

Next, Madelyn took out her textbook and spread it on the table. “Sebastian, I’ve been having trouble with a lot of stuff recently. Could you help me catch up a bit, please?”

Upon hearing these words, Sebastian couldn’t help but twitch his mouth.

Earlier, his assistant had called and mentioned that Madelyn was waiting for him in the office.

At dusk, Madelyn finally closed her textbook, stretching languidly. “I’m so tired…”

Sebastian also breathed a sigh of relief.

Madelyn looked at him and said, “Sebastian, you’ve been working so hard to help me with my review. How about I treat you to dinner?”

Sebastian shook his head as he still had some follow–up work to take care of.

“Aw… Sebastian, won’t you keep me company? If you don’t, I’ll just have to find someone else to dine with,” Madelyn said, her voice laced with a playful whine.

The thing that Sebastian found most unbearable was when she acted coy, which made her an absolute charmer.

Following that, Madelyn took the initiative to intertwine her hand with his, just like any young couple in love, as they set off together to find a restaurant for dinner.

After they finished eating, the two of them headed home together.

The following day, Madelyn headed to compte sweat, ready to return Jillian’s notebook to her.

So, without delay, she returned the notebook and then rushed to the doorway of the teachers office.

As soon as she approached the teachers‘ office, she could hear Ruth’s particularly sharp and cynical words coming from inside.

“Girls these days really have no sense of restraint. They don’t understand the concept of self–respect, and they actually go about doing things that make them the butt of jokes! If this gets out, all of us in the Department of Finance will be shamed because of you!”

Standing opposite to Ruth were none other than Jillian and her mother, Fiona Jenkins.

Upon hearing the teacher’s words, Fiona immediately protested with trembling hands. “You mustn’t say such things, Professor Pierson! There must be some misunderstanding here. My daughter has always been diligent and sensible, so there’s no way she could have done such a thing! As an educator, you can’t just make such careless remarks.”

Ruth was instantly irritated. “I’m a teacher! Do you really think I would deliberately make false accusations?”

Upon saying this, she raised her index finger and pointed directly at Jillian as she continued angrily, “Everyone on campus saw it! The photo clearly showed Jillian stepping out of a luxurious car! If she isn’t being kept by someone, then what’s going on?”

The more Fiona listened on, the more her heart ached, and she hastily sought to defend herself.

However, Ruth waved her hand dismissively and cut her off, “Enough! I don’t want to hear your explanations!”

I’ve heard about your family’s dire circumstances. Jillian’s father was once a thief and even served time in prison. You’ve achieved nothing over the years, always collecting waste for a living. How could peasants like you, from the lowest rungs of society, understand the principles of right and wrong?”

As Ruth spoke of this, she was reminded of her own upbringing in a family of scholars. Suddenly, she felt herself to be quite the noble one.

Jillian was already deeply displeased, so she lost her temper when Ruth resorted to personal attacks. Unable to hold back any longer, she immediately stood up.

“Professor Pierson, I’ve shown you lots of respect because you’re my mentor. I was hoping you could discern right from wrong and speak up for me. However, not only did you slander me, but you also deliberately insulted my family! Pardon my frankness, but given your behavior, I must say that you’re utterly unfit to be a teacher,” Jillian said assertively.
