"Carlos, you're going to spoil me!"
After witnessing Winona and Jaxon’s betrayal firsthand, Mikayla didn't think she'd ever invest in another relationship again. But somehow, she found herself irresistibly attracted to this man. His unconditional trust and indulgence drew her in deeper and deeper.
"That's the plan. I want to spoil you so much that no one else can handle you, so you'll never leave my side."
"I doubt you're new to this whole dating thing. You're too good at sweet-talking." Before this, Mikayla's only relationship was with Jaxon, who rarely said anything romantic. In contrast, Carlos's words flowed effortlessly, making her suspicious of him.
Carlos's hazel eyes gazed into her delicate features as his lips touched her forehead. "Mika, you have to believe me!"
Before they could enjoy more of their lovey-dovey moment, Sylvia called them back in for dinner. Mikayla saw the smile on Sylvia's face and blushed to her ears, giving Carlos a playful glare. She knew it, her mom had seen them.
Both families gathered at the table, toasting and chatting with their hidden agendas. Logan was lenient today because Jorge had agreed to take care of Huxley's work issue. Even Mildred, who usually wasn't very friendly, forced a smile at Mikayla's family. However, Huxley couldn't hide his emotions, even though Winona and Mildred kept signaling him to calm down. He stubbornly wore a grim face throughout. In his mind, if he didn't like Mikayla, why should he pretend otherwise? Needing to make nice with her family didn't sit right with him.
After dinner, Logan's family didn't make a move to leave. Mikayla and Carlos were inseparable, which frustrated Winona as she couldn't find an opportunity.
Finally, Sylvia asked Mikayla to help her get something from upstairs. With Carlos staying behind, he watched the news on TV.
Winona smirked, walking over and sitting close, but not too close, to Carlos. The lighting from the luxurious crystal chandelier made her look almost ethereal. Mikayla had an eye for picking men, and Carlos was undeniably good-looking.
"Carlos, are you into politics?" she asked casually.
Carlos didn't respond, changing the channel instead.
Winona wasn’t annoyed and continued, "Carlos, you're so funny! I can tell you care about Mikayla. Your wedding was simply breathtaking. No one in Xosa has ever thrown such an extravagant event. Even the little girls got roses. I felt so honored to receive one myself… thank you, Carlos."
Carlos's sharp eyes narrowed as he looked at Winona.
"Don't you want to know about Mikayla's past with Jaxon? They were together for years, and it was far more than just dating..."
"Don't you find yourself a bit noisy?" Carlos asked, his voice low and intimidating.
Winona suddenly felt a chill, this man was completely different from the one by Mikayla's side. "Isn't the Lindstrom family's son your husband? Continually tying your husband to Mikayla, you don't find that odd?" Carlos's tone turned icy. "Please, don't make the same mistake again. I won't consider the fact that you're Mika's cousin, or that you're pregnant. My Mika is not someone you can tarnish!"
Being threatened by a man like this was a first for her! No chivalry whatsoever. This is the man Mikayla chose? Just a rude guy who throws money around, no class at all!
"Carlos, are you even a man? I can't believe you don't care at all about your wife's long-term relationship with her ex-fiancé!" Winona had never met a man like this before.
